This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal for the XC90's second year on the market. All models get wheel and tire upgrades -- 2.5Ts will wear 225/70R17 rubber and T6s will wear 235/65R17 rubber, but both get the same 17-inch "Neptune" wheels. Ice White is a new exterior color choice. Stand-alone options now include a wood steering wheel, aluminum dash inlays and a leather shift knob.

Pros:
  • Safe as a bank vault, plush ride, feels smaller than it is, high-quality interior materials, ample cargo room.
Cons:
  • Turbocharged T6 engine not well suited to SUV duty, third-row seating takes up too much second-row space.

  • Bought it cheap! Best car Ive ever owned!!! - 2004 Volvo XC90

Seems like if you have the T6 AWD your doomed from the beginning with transmission and electrical problems. I picked up a 2004 2.5 5-cylinder with 80,000 miles and a blown motor at my local Volvo dealer for $2000.00!! Volvo had just installed a new transmission in it about 2000 miles before I bought it under warranty. I Called LKQ and they delivered a fresh 40,000 mile engine to my front door for $800 including shipping! Before I dropped the engine in, I installed a new timing belt water pump and replaced all the oil and coolant seals. Took about 3 days of wrench spinning and I now have a perfect 1 owner 2004 XC90 2.5 AWD with 80,000 miles for about $3200!!

  • Happy so far - 2004 Volvo XC90

vehicle is great. unfortunately, dealership did not live up to the quality of the XC-90. prone to door nicks - the side bumper strip does little to protect the body. performance is excellent when you realized it is not a barn burner. general quality was better than expected (0 defects).

  • XC90 Great Car - 2004 Volvo XC90

This car was a great purchase. The interior is beyond comfortable and the sound system spectacular. The center consol is a little sparce and looks nowhere near as luxurious as the rest of the car. The third row seat is great and fold flat down into the car, and the wooden steering wheel is nice. The availability to get the car is tough and getting DVD and/or navigation is much much harder. The rear backup control suprisingly came to be more helpful and worthwhile then I first imagined, and the Manumatic shifting is a fun feature my son enjoys. Compared to my 2000 RX300 this thing is a sports car, my take: when in the market seriously consider.

  • Phenomenal vehicle! - 2004 Volvo XC90

Volvo has outdone itself with this vehicle. The design, the performance, the quality of the materials and the workmanship - everything is just outstanding. This SUV is a fun to drive: it is quiet, sporty, comfortable, with wonderfully ergonomic controls. Yes, I looked at BMW X5 and Infiniti FX-whatever, and they dont even come close. Volvos XC90 is classy and sophisticated, and my neighbor doesnt have one. :-)

  • Wife had to have it! - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

My wife at, 5 foot 2 inches, has a hard time getting into and out of most SUVs. And since the XC-90 was going to be hers. We visited the Houston auto show last winter. She got into and out of every SUV there. The Toyoto was too tall. The Nissan was too far. And she couldnt even get over the edge of the BMWs seat. The XC-90 was just right! She had to have it!

  • Edmunds Helped Me Make The Right Choice - 2004 Volvo XC90

I did my research before buying our 2007 Volvo XC90. Needed an AWD and wanted a safe and roomy ride for our grandchild. Edmunds really helped in the process of elimination and we are so happy we chose (and found) a Volvo. Thanks!

  • Fabulous vehicle! - 2004 Volvo XC90

Fun to drive, luxurious feel. Safety system is A+++++. Exterior is very unique, doesnt look like every other midsize SUV. Highly recommend this vehicle.

  • What A Joke - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

I purchased the Volvo XC90 for safety and reliability. The air conditioner has died three times, the engine blew up when the service department turned off the service light, leather seat split at the seams at 80,000 miles, font head lights faded and had to be replaced at 60,000 miles. There are no after market parts, Volvo stands behind its product as little as possible and charges $1,000.00 for just about everything. Even the key broke and thy charged $300 for a new one.

  • Boston Snow Storm - 2004 Volvo XC90
    By -

I bought this car because of the third row seat, Volvo saftey and the great experience we have had owning previous Volvos. But in the snow storm over the past weekend, I was amazed at how well the XC90 handled the 24 inches of snow. It went everywhere with no problems.
