Phaeton is a great deal! - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By bobschneider - January 27 - 10:00 amIve had my Phaeton 10 days, and I love it! I was shopping for a 530i or an E320, but when I found I could get a Phaeton for the same money (with incentives) I jumped on it. I got a base model, but it still had all the features I wanted, and is the most comfortable car Ive ever owned. Its no sports car, but it drives very well, and rides like a dream.

Phaeton tops all other luxury cars! - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By london - December 15 - 10:00 amI looked at Mercedes (S-Class), BMW (7 Series), Audi (A8), Range Rover and Lexus (LS400 series). As a fluke I was asked to look at the VW Phaeton. I thought, VW-no thanks. (Nothing wrong with VWs but not what I thought I wanted). Sat in it and was amazed at the incredible technology and comforts built in. Better intuitive Info Center (Navigation, Climate, Systems, Stereo, etc.) than any other lux car model. The seats are the most comfortable Ive ever sat in-better than Volvo. The room is incredible. The car is handbuilt in Germany. The fit and finish blow away everything else. The ride is outstanding. Quiet? Dual paned glass through out. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CAR!!!

Wonderful Car, but It was a Lemon - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By john matter - December 1 - 5:56 amThe Phaeton has an amazing design inside and out. It is by far the nicest car I have ever owned (which includes BMW, Porsche, Mercedes). However, in slightly more than two years it was in the shop twelve times. The dealership was great, service people fantastic, but the car has just too many issues. The electronic stuff and programing just are not durable. VW hit a home run in design and struck out on reliability. This is the least reliable car I have ever owned.

Get this vehicle while you still can! - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By Danny Fuller - November 27 - 9:20 pmI happened to stumble upon this vehicle by chance and am very happy for the outcome. I am very impressed by the engine build, interior comfort and subdued exterior design - not into the prestige vehicle badges. This car isnt prestige at all, and thats a good thing. Fuel economy could improve but compared to some 4cyl turbos out there it isnt much of a difference. In fact some V6s out there have the same fuel economy as the V8 Phaeton. Personally I would NOT recommend the W12 Phaeton with 12cyl.

Car as hobby - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By sooththetruth - November 21 - 6:50 amI craved this car for months, shopped for 6 months, and found a great deal, with remaining CPO warranty. The car is a dream to drive, and the ride unimaginably good. However, you learn that this is a finicky monster to maintain properly. The tires wore quickly because the alignment went out, and there are few places that no how to align it. Without a long term warranty? A transmission is 10K, and the wrong transmission fluid was specd when new. The speaker wires break. The regulators in the doors go bad starting at 60,000 miles. This is a car for people with money to burn, and two cars to drive. Oh yeah, the build quality is the burden of ownership, maintaining the dream.

Built the way Mercedes used to build - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By jesichler - October 1 - 2:00 am15 yrs. ago Mercedes had the best built cars. Now VW creates "build quality" equal to Lexus, better than BMW, and way ahead of Mercedes. The ride, handling, fit and finish are phenomenal. Gas mileage is an acceptable 16 MPG in mixed driving. The W12 engine is smooth/responsive and the car so well insulated that it glides super quietly along the highway at 70 MPH with engine RPM @2200. I wanted understated elegance and excellent fit/finish and got what I paid for. I strongly recommend this car if you dont worry about "hood emblems" and just want fine quality, design, and function.

The Best Vehicle for Under $150,000 - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton
By Joe - September 5 - 12:46 amThe Phaeton is a fantastic vehicle - really, its the same as the new Bentley Continental Flying Spur. It is fun to drive and much nicer than the S-Class and 7-Series that I have driven in the past. Its fuel economy is not great, but it is a very heavy vehicle - approx. 5,300 lbs. In light of the weight and performance, its fuel economy could be much worse.

The Peoples Luxury Car - 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton
By Maxwell Stein - June 23 - 4:40 pmWhile some would argue that VW is the maker of inexpensive economy cars, it has been gradually making its way upmarket. The Phaeton is the companys attempt to match Mercedes and BMWs flagship sedans directly. For the most part, the experiment works. The Phaeton can best be appreciated from the inside-out where the driver and passengers are coddled in top-quality materials and a pleasant environment. The styling is sublimely understated to the point where it might be considered the Passats big brother. Still, it wont confuse anyone out there with an S-class or 7-series. Its performance is quietly competent but certainly no M-5 bahn-burner.
