  An incredible used car value - 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton

  Coming from a BMW 7 series, I was concerned, but this is a fantastic car at a great value on the used market. Make sure to get a CPO or aftermarket warranty though just in case. They seem to be quite reliable, but no doubt quite costly once the warranty runs out. The interior is huge, the engine very powerful, and enough little touches that show they thought of everything. Only downside is that VW dealerships dont know how to service customers for a higher end vehicle like this. They are used to people buying $15k cars, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus are not and thus, do it right. Buy it!

  This car is far better than any lux car that is not a "exotic" Some small improvemonts are still needed. a touch screen dvd nav system, xm radio, better gas milage, blue tooth phone system and make standar the technology package. It needs parktronic it is so large. The power trunk seems like a toy but there is no way to close the trunk with out leaving hand prints on the beautiful finish. Also an improved keyless acess system like the one in an audi with touch stare and mabey head up disply and sonar cruise control. Vw has done a great job just some fine tuning is needed.

  I bought this car at a very substantial discount, because nobody wants to pay a price the car deserves, being afraid of telling their friends that they drive a VW. This car is beautifully finished and engineered and a pleasure to drive. HI have not had any issues during the first 20,000 miles. As long as the dealership will support service, this is a keeper for a long period. I am not longing back to my three BMW 740ILs, which had substantial more quality and repair problems.

  I have never owned a more luxurious vehicle. It has every option you could possibbly ask for in an up scale auto. The ride is as quite as any Cadilac, Mercedes, or BMW we have owned over the years. This is truley the auto buy of the decade.

  I gave my Volkswagen Phaeton V8 ratings of build quality and reliabilty lower marks because the memory settings for seat, mirrors etc are very unpredictable. They dont seem to hold the settings. The dealer is working very hard to train me or fix the problem. My dealer is very good. Every thing else about this car is the best a very nice luxury car. People do notice and say "This is a Volkswagen?"

  I loved test driving this car. It had the best seats of any car I ever driven. I currently own a 7 series BMW and while this car compares very favorably to the BMW, I have to wonder why any consumer would take a chance on a new, unproven luxury car for about the same price as the new BMW 745I. If this car was $50,000 I would have written a check on the spot. In order for this car to sell they will have to discount it to attract the BMW, Mercedes, Jag crowd.

  VW really messed up not advertising the Phaeton. If you want an all weather luxury cruiser this is it, period. It sure is a bargain in the used vehicle market right now. It has more well thought out bells and whistles than I can use. It absolutely puts my first generation Audi A8 to shame and it is a great car.

  I have owned many luxury and sports cars over the last 20 years. The Phaeton is clearly the best by a substantial margin. The fact that it carries the VW badge should not be a deterrent for true car lovers and afficionados.

  There is only one problem with this car: Every time you turn the car on you have to go into "economy" and turn off rear air conditioning. Do the Germans always drive with backseat passengers? Overall nicer than an Audi A8L even when the Phaeton is stock.
