Overview & Reviews
The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.
- Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
- V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

Fun But Too Many Electrical Issues - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By CHOP - June 7 - 4:06 amMy first VW. Purchased a 2006 Certified Passat Lux edition. Fun fast performing car. Mechanically sound, modern styling and dealer service was great, but in just under 2 years, Ive had it in the shop about 12 times to fix electrical annoyances. Ive owned BMW and Mercedes; for some reason, Germans cant get the electrical right. Also, alot of squeaks in cold weather. Gas mileage is great, but spent too much time at the dealership.

Look at whats under the hood! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By sandiego11 - March 25 - 5:48 pmIve read a lot of reviews before I purchased my vehicle. Noticed that there were lots of issues with the 2006 VW. drove a lot of different cars including a new fusion, and several Japanese cars. Ive never driven a 2.0T but typically large cars with an undersized engine and a turbo to help compensate dont do well (repair wise) Have owned my 3.6 for a year now (its a 5 year old 2006) and its running spectacular! Nothing but regular maintenance needed. You have to remember that this is nearly a 3k pound car. a 2.0T will not work long term with sporty driving, but if you choose a 3.6 its an excellent commuter and very fun on the weekends without much time in the shop.

Needs Better Build Quality - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By fyrepower - February 11 - 2:13 amI decided to make a switch from Japanese vehicle to the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T after all the glowing reviews. Most have been spot on, but I must say Im very disappointed with the build quality. The interior materials have a very cheap feel to them (especially the audio / control dashboard). I also hear small rattles coming out of dashboard and doors everytime I hit small potholes. Otherwise the car is a joy to drive.

My 3rd VW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By Bradley - January 1 - 3:13 pmThis is my third VW, after 20 years without one. I test drove a comparable Accord, Camry, etc. They all boast better reliability, but cannot compare to the performance, comfort, quietness, and quality feel of this car. I get 30+ MPG highway. My reliability issues: I had squeaky front suspension in cold weather, VW put in new struts under warranty. I had a lot of squeaks in doors, but was easily solved with using silicone spray where ever rubber seals touch metals surfaces. (The outside door seals were the culprit, not the inner rubber, if you have this problem).
