This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Impressive Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I bought my 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T six weeks ago after trading an Porsche. I have owned the last three shapes and this is definitely the best. Everything works. I was rear ended recently and the car that hit me was quiet damaged. I came out with just scratches on the bumper. Even the guy was impressed. I have owned five VWs, an Audi, a Jeep, a Mercedes SUV, and a Porsche SUV and this is definitely the best value for the money.

  • I must have gotten a good one - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Got my 06 Passat 3 days after they hit the US dealerships in 2005. After just about 4 years of driving: paint is flawless, V-Tex seats still look new, every single thing on the car works except the XM part of the radio (it went out 3 times and part not made by VW). The car turns heads when I drive it and the young crowd thinks its a hip automobile. Dynaudio 600w sound system is powerful and the extra features like the electronic parking brake and the hill holder are nice touches. I worried about VW reliability when I bought it but really wanted it and I have not been disappointed at all.

  • 2006 Passat 2.0T Tiptronic with Package 2 - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I purchased a silver Passat with Package 2 yesterday. The sticker price on the vehicle was $28,415, and I got it for $26,021(+tax). Its interior is great and the turbo has a very good torque. I was not able to see the full potential yet, because I am taking it slow in "break in" period. It is bigger than the old Passat and rides better also. I tested the V6 model with 18" tires also and there was not much difference in ride quality from my turbo four. I regret not going for the Dynaudio stereo system, because the longer I listen the radio that you get with 2.0T, the more I think that my Monsoon is much better. the radio display is great, as is the info center in the dash, with all the settings that owners are able to make.

  • My 3rd Passat and the Best - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This 2006 3.6 Passat is my 3rd. For quality, ride, comfort, and mileage its the best. I commute 35 miles each way to work, and daily checking my mileage computer; I get 31-33 MPG! And, thats not all cruising! On road trips, I also have validated mileage of 31-34 MPG at highway speeds. This vehicle is vastly under-appreciated. It compares with ANY, more highly visible, family sport sedans. As importantly, my dealership; Britt VW, is a gem. Great car, great dealership, and great daily fun driving a car that handles exceptionally, is comfortable, has all the power you need, and gets great mileage. Fact is, this 2006 3.6 auto gets better mileage than my 2003 V6 5- speed!

  • Ready for the CC - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

As I near the end of my lease, I have been very satisfied with my Passat. Havent had the reliability issues that others have mentioned and my dealer has been great. Any minor issues Ive had have been corrected in a timely fashion. Great gas mileage, still drives like a dream, little lag when using tiptronic and coming off the freeway, but overall, this is a great car. This is my 3rd VW and I havent had a moments trouble with any of them. Ive been test driving other cars like crazy and I would have to pay more to get all the bells and whistles that come standard on my Passat. Looking forward to the CC.

  • WOW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

After seven years of driving a Chevy Cavalier, the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T feels like driving a Bentley. The interior is so roomy and luxurious even on the 2.0T package 1 model. The turbo engine is great on gas mileage and really has some kick. The only problem is that this car is going to get me a ticket, I dont even know that Im driving 80+ MPH, it just wants to keep accelerating!

  • Would Buy Again - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I have had this car for 18,000 plus miles so far. It has had only oil changes and tire rotations, no issues whatsoever. I get good gas mileage; 28/33 mpg, but the premium fuel hurts during the summer. People love the styling. I like the driving.
