This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Completely Unacceptable, My last VW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Since I leased this car Ive had the a/c compressor replaced (6 mo. after getting the car), 2 cd players replaced, steering column replaced (which Ive read is locking up and causing cars to SHUT OFF while driving, so BE CAREFUL if youre between 55-65k) spark plugs, catalytic converter, and either the fuel injector(s) or coils will be replaced at 55k, once I on my own figure out which is actually faulty. I would 100% not recommend this car to anyone. I was so excited to be getting a passat but after all of this, I will NEVER AGAIN purchase, lease or go anywhere near a vw. My crappy 1996 Hyundai Sonata was more reliable.

I absolutely love my 2006 Passat 2.0T! I am a first time VW owner and I am blown away. You can not beat the value, styling and satisfaction of this vehicle. I test drove a Honda Accord, a Nissan Atima and a Toyota Camry and there is no comparison. I bought a Mocha Brown, Package 1 and I look around the cabin in amazement at how upscale this vehicle looks. I cant wait to get the windows tinted! For the first time ever, I feel like I have purchased the right vehicle for myself and at an excellent price. I keep reading about VW reliability being less than stellar, I only hope that is a thing of the past.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The Passat 2.0T has plenty of get up and go. With all that pep it still delivers of 27 mpg. The seating is one of the most comfortable midsize cars I have been in. On the road it handles well. It is a fun car to drive. I have driven it over 2,300 miles in 6 weeks.

  • Youll Love This Car!!! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I sold my 97 BMW 740 (I got tired of the $1,000 repair bills!) and just purchased the new 06 Passat with the Luxury Pkg. #2. Its got plenty of power and great mileage to boot (22/35). I picked the Passat over the Audi A4 and Infiniti G35 because of the extra room in the back seat, many standard features as well as the good lease deal VW was offering. I didnt think I would like to drive a VW after owning a 7-Series BMW but I was plesantly surprised. The websites compare this car to the Camry and Accord but I think it is more in the class of the BMW 3-Series, Volvo S40, Saab 9-3, and Infiniti G35. Im convinced that you cannot find a better car for the money from anyone!

  • One of a kind, state of the art! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is a premium car at regular price! It has a turbo engine, 6-speed Tiptronic, all features you can think of - standard. This is not a car, its a space ship. The Passat compares to the Acura TL and Lexus IS, but not in price - it is $10,000 - $12,000 less. It is a BMW without the price tag. Hey, Honda and Toyota, do you think for $22,400 out door for my Passat you can compare you cars to it?!? What are you selling for that money? Not even half what the Passat has standard. And this is the bottom - Value Edition! I have been driving VWs since 1993, and I intend to drive- forever! The VW Passat is a masterpiece, not from this world!

  • 2006 Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I recently purchased a 2006 Candy White Passat. What a carÂ… If I only had a dollar for each person who has stopped me to comment on the car. It rides like a dream, miles above my 2005 Nissan Maxima. The only flaw is the wind design. Driving with only the driverÂ’s side window open is extremely windy. The airflow hits the window frame and pushes into the car. The new sound system has better quality sound than my previous 2002 Passat Monsoon system.

  • Best car for the money dollar per dollar - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The cars is 200HP and you feel it. Paradise for tall people, more leg room than an E class Mercedes. At high speed in the highway you notice why European and Japaneses are different. Well built and fun to drive, very reasonable fuel consumption. No problems whatsoever in 13,500 miles. A lot of car for the money and safety features are important to me. This VW is designed to go over 100 MPH on the Germans "autobahn" and engineering is superb. Im extremely happy with the purchase of my Passat. The human bean is the most perfect machine in the world and sometimes fail. What the people expect of a car? In live luck counts for all. Wishing you good luck on your new Passatt as I had.

  • love, hate relationship with vw - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is an awesome vehicle to drive. The handling and performance is unmatched by anything else in the category; however, this is my second VW and the same problems have occurred in this one as my 2001 jetta. The menu frequently posts inaccurate information such as tire pressure too low and the check engine light comes on. The Windows create a blind spot and the sunroof is inefficient.

  • Fun But Too Many Electrical Issues - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

My first VW. Purchased a 2006 Certified Passat Lux edition. Fun fast performing car. Mechanically sound, modern styling and dealer service was great, but in just under 2 years, Ive had it in the shop about 12 times to fix electrical annoyances. Ive owned BMW and Mercedes; for some reason, Germans cant get the electrical right. Also, alot of squeaks in cold weather. Gas mileage is great, but spent too much time at the dealership.

  • Excellent 30-something Family Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I had my reservations about owning a -. family car. Being a "young" man I wanted something with style and get up and go. WOW was I ever surprised! I cannot say enough about this car. Its stylish, fun to drive, has all the bells and whistles and safety features, and the mechanical soundness of German technology.
