This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Got to drive it...then youll buy it! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The New Passat shames my 2002 version that I loved. The leather seats in Package 2 are awesomely comfortable. I was sorry to read that one review mentioned the need for audio controls on the steering wheel. Package 2 has that feature and gives you leather trim that is luxurious. I bought the navigation system, anyone buying the New Passat should look into it. It gives you an slick looking display for your radio as well as directions to the unknown. Youll drive it and buy it. Everyones comments about drive and performance are accurate. It drives like a BWM, Audi, Mercedes, or Jaguar. Why would anyone buy one of them over the new Passat?

  • Great Car, I Love it. - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I have owned my Passat 2.0 for 10 days and I drive about 50 miles per day. The car is wonderful, Im very happy with the purchase. I considered Honda Accord V6 EX and VW Passat 2.0 when buying, and the Passat won. I have all the options available for 2.0 including package #2, navigation, 17 in. wheels, Dynaudio system, and additional airbags. I like Passat better than my 2003 BMW 325i. The Passat doesnt have brand name like BMW, but it is fast, smooth, and has many features that my BMW doesnt have.

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat has been great so far. After about 1,300 miles it has been getting 30+ mpg.

Sport package #2 with this vehicle. Great motor and 6 speed tranny with paddles. Super passing acceleration. Must say she puts a smile on my face. Great interior and seating position. Have had this vehicle for almost 6 months now and she is getting more fun to drive. AWD bites right off the line and also when rounding bends coming onto a highway or leaving one to get on another. A real sleeper, this Passat 3.6L. Older V-8 performance with a very modern V-6. Sport mode and tiptronic adds to the excitement when you want.

I have owned a Passat for past 8 yrs. The new 2006 model has been great. It is a head turning and even teenagers say "Nice car!" The gas mileage has been awesome, I have to drive 21 miles one way to work and I get between 30- 33 mpg. My Passat gets about 550 miles per tank. I havent had any issues with this Passat, only routine maintenance. the only thing I dont like about the car is you cant drive with driver side window down. The wind blows so hard through this window I cant stand it. I have tried to adjust other windows and sunroof and nothing works. I dont know for newer models but for 2006 this is a problem for me. But overall I would recommend this car to anyone.

  • Very Satisfied Owner - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I am very pleased with the comfort and cabin space. Handling is very good for a sedan; it has handled snow and ice well. Controls are well designed and thoughtfully placed. Fuel consumption is about what I expected. My Value Edition has the necessary safety features. The electronic key and parking brake are nice "impress the neighbors" items. Its acceleration is very good for its size and weight. The transmission sometimes is not as reponsive (i.e., start from stop moving rapidly to reach highway speed on uphill grades) as I would wish . Climate control is very satisfactory. The truck is large. Overall I am very happy with this car. It is fun to drive.

  • Low-Key and Classy - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The interior is unbelievably luxurious and has many thoughtful features. The acceleration and handling are top notch. It has taken me several weeks to adjust to driving such a fine car (versus my old 95 Jetta). The interior and exterior design is very conservative and classy. This is a great car.

  • Underated Vehichle of the Year - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The car drives like a dream. The interior quality is far above standard. I purchased the fully loaded 3.6 4Motion with Sport Pkg 2 with all the fixins. It is a low key car that surprises all who dare to doubt. The car competes aggresively with the G35s performance and luxury of the Acura RL.

  • Value for the money! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Recently I bought a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T. It is a sweet ride, its got the power when you need it! The 200HP under the hood makes the whole difference on at traffic lights! On the road it runs swiftly, although you have to watch the speed because you dont feel it! The automatic transmission (Tiptronic) is a nice option, but if you want a sporty ride - go with the 6-speed manual, thats what I bought. Another good thing is the fuel consumption. After I put gas in it, the computer shows that I have 510-520 miles to empty! It takes premium, but its worth every penny! The roomy enterior seats four adults very comfortably. This car is made in Germany, and it makes a difference! If you want a good German car in mid the $20,000s, then thats the best choice.
