This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Impressive - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I did a lot of research to determeine which AWD vehicle would best fit my needs and the Passat came out on top. I have only had the car for a week, but I am impressed with the performance and design. The only option that did not come with the car is the navigation system. The instrument panel layout is great and easy to understand. I particularly like the ease of the multi-function steering wheel that controls the computer. The most impressive thing about this car is the 280 HP engine that has great pick up that beats the 190 ponies I had in my 2001 Audi A4. If you want or need an AWD drive vehicle that is roomy yet feels sporty this car is for you.

Our shopping around included the Chrysler Pacifica, Cadillac STS, Nissan Murano, and Nissan Maxima. I found the Passat to be more powerful, better designed, quieter and more comfortable than the rest. The price seemed reasonable enough.

  • Great car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Ive had my 2006 Volkswagen Passat for a week and really enjoy driving it. I purchased the 3.6L with Sport Package 1. The cars rides and handles great, and the seats are very comfortable. I drove the 2.0L turbo and it was a nice car, but I was swayed by the bigger engine and the additional features of the 3.6L. There are too many standard and optional features to list, but if youre reading this, you probably already know what they are. This is a great car!

  • Car That You Must Drive... - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The redesigned Passat is a must drive vehicle. What other car provides you European engineering and luxury for that price? Come-on, even VWs Audi product line does not offer the innovative look of the Passat. Why are you going to spend that type of money on either the smaller A3 or dated A4? I have had minor issues, some my own fault. I have read some of the other reviews and hope that they have fixed the "Check Engine" error; mine was for faulty air-intake motor. Some times, the Navigation system glitches requiring a car restart. But overall, for a first model year, its a great car that is fun to drive, luxuriously, and no where near as expensive to own and maintain as a BMW/Mercedes.

It provides a very comfortable, quiet, smooth ride while also having wonderful performance. Its acceleration is good for a sedan of its size. The built in XM and interior lighting get compliments from everyone.

  • Best family sedan in market - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I recently purchased a 2006 VW Passat, deep black with pkg #2 and Dynaudio and 15 miles on odometer. At the time all other car makers are trying to cut cost, VW came up with a winner. This is the car designed for drivers, not saving several pennies from each component. After 600 miles, still love it with no grievance. Shifting into the "S" gear, the car launched like a rocket. The normal "D" was programmed to save gas. Overall I got 24-25 MPG on my daily driving (no freeway). The Dynaudio stereo is awesome and I love the MP3 capability and the satellite radio. I wanted to get a united grey or shadow blue, but the black with chrome grill just looks so ...rich.

I love the overall package, ride, looks, power on demand, and the fuel mileage is far more than i expected. My wife thinks I am a genuis for this purchase. Hey I needed the positive factor. I will get a second 2.0T.

  • Playing catch up - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I just traded an Expedition on a new 2006 Passat. I do NOT miss my gas guzzler one bit. The fit and finish on this car are very impressive. My wife has the Infiniti G35 coupe, and the new Passat is very close in terms of quality! This is my first German auto and will not be my last, I am hooked. American car companies should take a long hard look at this car, they have some major catching up to do.

  • An Autoban Cruiser! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6 really performs! It is a fantastic combination of handling, acceleration (with absolutely zero torque steer!), comfort and ergonomics...especially with the sport package that inlcudes 12 way adjustable seats, both driver and passenger side, that feel as good as they look! the Sport package also has a dialed down suspension for even flatter cornering. this car is unbelievable at AutoBahn speeds! The 3.6 engine will knock you back into your seat with available torque on demand, yet provides much better gas mileage than the Infiniti G35 will ever hope to get! The engine has a "Euro" growl, unlike the Japanese "appliance" sound! The Passat sailed through a 6" snow fall in Chicago, passing three BMWs that got stuck! Go VW!

  • Awesome Vehicle! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is our fourth Volkswagen (first Passat) and the cars continue to get better an better. What a powerful 4-cylinder turbo engine! I love merging onto the highway!
