Overview & Reviews
The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.
- Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
- V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

Mixed feelings - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By jknolls - August 23 - 3:16 amIve had this car for about 18 months now. This car drives nice, gets a lot of looks, and gives great mileage. There are a lot of negatives also, for example. Auto trans is sluggish and has jerky shifts. There are rattles/squeaks everywhere all the time (unless Im driving on freshly made road). There are no auto headlights (or even auto-off lights) and fully powered drivers seat on this $24K car. Cup holders are a joke. Temperature control is completely manual (even a base accord will have a semi-automatic temp control and semi automatic defrost control). You cannot turn off daytime running lamps (why do cars have them in the first place?).

You Need to Feel It! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By oates - July 26 - 7:56 pmI had a 2002 Toyota Camry LE that was totaled. For a replacement, I also very carefully evaluated the Honda Accord EX V6. After driving all three, the Passat was the clear choice based on feel. It has the firmest ride and best handling by far. Its interior easily supasses the Accord for quality of materials and ergonimics and surpasses the Camry on ergonimics. The 2.0T engine felt much quicker than either the Camry or Accord. Wrapped in a unique, elegant package, I was sold. Just hoping the reliability doesnt become an issue.

Kool - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By joe - June 16 - 2:03 pmThis car runs with the best of them. It has a great turbo engine. It handles like a much smaller auto. I love almost everything about it but, why is the clock only good for the driver to see. Everyone wants to see the time. Also, I cant reach the door handle when its fully opened. These are very minor things if you love this car as much as my family does. It is just great!

Forget the Bimmer, Go for the Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By Dan - June 2 - 1:46 amThis is my 3rd Passat, and the absolute best. The quality is exceptional, the ride comfortable, and the 3.6L engine a gem. With the Luxury package #2 and wood trim interior, Ill compare this to any BMW, MB, or Infiniti! And, for many thousands less!! You gotta give the Passat a look, youll be overwhelmed with the quality. Also, I regularly get 30-31+ MPG on the road.

Id love it more if it were reliable. - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By pylorns - May 19 - 2:20 amThe car looks great, it handles well, and it is very comfortable to ride in. Find another car that has so many luxury features for the price. The above said, the reliability of the car has been a nightmare. Ive had the A/C Replaced, throttle body, pcv valves, gas cap, interior buttons, shocks, all replaced. Ive had all of the TSBs that applied to the 2006 model just about - and there are a lot. Ive had about 15-18 services since I bought the car in 2006. Which works out to almost every other month (it wasnt that frequent but sometimes it was 3 times in a month).

My VW Nightmare since 2005 - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By I Hate VW - May 15 - 3:13 amI have been experiencing constant issues with Volkswagen since I purchased it in 2005. I think it is the company at a whole not the dealership alone. My car is always serviced by the inexperienced mechanic. I seriously had parts broken and fall of after a service from a VW dealership. I can understand if I was going on the corner to have my car repaired then I would be accountable. I just want VW to be accountable for once. Always a service engine light, PCV value, manifold issue, brakes or whatever else that occurs.I am not stopping here. I refuse be treated in this manner. The consumers need to stand up and demand that we are valued. Alert the media and Congress. Someone will listen

Buyers Beware - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
By oddmoe - May 10 - 10:33 amLike many of you other reviewers, I too was looking at the Infiniti G35, Acura TL/RL, and Toyota Camry and ended up buying the 2006 Passat 3.6L Sedan. I thought it had the best bang for the buck. However, someone once told me that if something is too good to be true, it probably isnt. Ive driven this car less than 3,000 miles and have already had it in the shop 3-4 times. The electrical system has failed numerous times, tire-pressure gauge light has already gone off as well as the service engine light. Its usually a 2-week wait to get your car in for service and make it 3-weeks if you need a loaner. This car is not very reliable and VW dealers provide poor customer service. It worries me what this car will cost in the end.
