Overview & Reviews
The big news for 2004 is the addition of a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine to the lineup late in the model year. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is a delayed option on 1.8T-equipped GLS models. Also note that the 2.8-liter V6 is no longer available on GLS models. The premium Monsoon stereo and Homelink are now standard on all GLS models, while wood trim has been added to the optional Leather Package. The ESP stability control system is now standard on the GLX. Rounding out the changes are restyled 15- and 16-inch wheels and new side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
- Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
- Expensive upper-level models, less rear-seat room than some competitors, some confusing interior controls.

Just dont do it - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Laura - November 9 - 10:00 amI bought this car for the same reason many people buy Volkswagens: They look nice and are fun to drive. Well, they are fun until they start breaking down!! My car has had an array of problems. I would NEVER buy a Volkswagen again. I know lots of friends with Passats and Jettas, they have issues with theirs to. Volkswagens are good up until about 60,000, and then theyre junk. Oh, they do not hold their value well at all either. I will say that this car was fun and roomy in the front. I did feel safe in it, as it is a heavier car. There are other cars out there - do not settle on a Volkswagen.

Mine is a "98 with 60,000 miles - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By pfdbiz@aol.com - November 4 - 2:00 amMy wifes car replacing a MB. She would never buy another MB, she loves the Passat. Not one problem in 60,000 miles. I do not get to drive it often since she is so happy with the car that she doesnt share it much. I asked her what she wanted as her next car and she said "the next Passat". Ride, comfort and handling, it cant be beat for the price.

"My Silver Rocket" - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By ToriaMorgan - November 4 - 2:00 amSanta Fe Dealership was wonderful. My Silver Rocket feels like a cross between an Audi and a BMW. Excellent handling, stops on a dime. Turbo lets me pass in the fast lane going uphill like the other car is standing still. I love it!!!

Practical Fun - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By walker72 - November 4 - 2:00 amZippy tight and o so practical. Everything feels right and in its proper place. Take the step up from the base GL model, it a few grand that makes this car feel and handle like cars priced 10K more. If you have kids, the leather will make you oh so happy... and its mighty comfy too.

The Right Choice - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Donna Manera - November 4 - 2:00 amMy boyfriend talked me into a VW instead of an Audi because of the savings. We saw it in the Consumer Report being the #1 best rated vehicle so I ended up buying it. Im so happy with the entire package. The triptonic is so fun and the seats lay down where I can load it up with anything I want. The stereo is the best also. Thanks VW.

Awesome Car! - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By cj5689 - November 4 - 2:00 amI love this car! This is my second Passat. After looking at number of other sedans both lower and higher in price (BMW,Honda,Mercedes,Toyota), I could not justify leaving the VW and all of its standard features, quality of materials, fit and finish, and most of all, the crisp and responsive handling. Plus with 6 airbags and anti lock brakes standard, its a great family car as well which was important for me. Its not the cheapest and certainly not the most expensive sedan, but when you look at what you are not getting in some of the lower priced competitors models, the Passat makes perfect sense!
