This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

I Love this Volkswagen Passat based on its performance style and appearance. Some people have even said that my car look so sophicated for the road.

  • Nice but hard to please - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

My Passat is really nice, inside and out. I have 6M. People who write reviews and think an automatic with tiptronic is a six speed Manual please put your review in the 6A for Automatic. Its acceleration is OK if the AC is off. The engine is too loud in second gear when holding the gear for acceleration. The stock tires are GoodYear Eagles LS and are horrible above 80 mph (read loud) and on rough roads. If you buy at a dealership with the Eagles insist on swapping for Continentals. In hardcore driving manuvers the car will wiggle and lean a bit on the highway when doing quick lane changes, but stays composed. I wish the car would lay flat more, thicker antiroll bars might be the trick. Its fit and Finish are superb. The seats and room are amazing.

  • Not a B5 - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my second Passat, at the end of the lease now. I loved my 2002 B5. This, however, is not a B5. I enjoyed this car, but had some problems with it. The electronic parking brake has been repaired 2x now and still glitchy. It actually disengaged itself and rolled across a parking lot once! AC compressor had to be replaced and the AC is anemic anyway. The film on the dash bubbled up in the sun. In its favor: the car is just a blast to drive. I have the 6 speed, and its a hoot. The automatic was anemic compared to the 6 speed. The sensation of a big car moving like a little roadster is comical, enjoyable and uniquely entertaining.

  • What a car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The new 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6 features many extras spilled over from the Phaeton. The car is extremely fun to drive and there are very many safety features to keep you from having an accident. There are also many fun extras like the steerable headlights, 6 disc in dash CD changer, XM radio, auto-hold feature and an awesome trip computer. If youre thinking about buying a Passat, please do. My BMW / VW salesman told me that VW / Audi is years ahead of BMW and Mercedes-Benz in technology and feautures. The ride is very quiet and the heated leather seats are comfortable. The Dynaudio sound system is worth the extra money! It is the most awesome stereo Ive ever heard in a car and it always amazes my friends!

  • This is no bug! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

OK, Ive only had this car for two weeks now...but man, can this car rock! I had pretty well settled on a Mazda6 Sport, and at the last minute decided to try the Passat. This thing reeks of build quality..its like its machined from a solid piece of metal! The technology that VW has engineered into this car at this price is unbelievable. I used to own an Audi back in the early 90s, and at that time it suffered from poor quality and reliability issues, but I certainly dont get that impression driving this baby. Its acceleration, quietness (even at speed), trip computer and all the top quality features set this car years apart from the competition! Its a Mercedes at a fraction of the cost!

  • Have It All for Not Too Much - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The Passat 3.6L sport package is a great all around car with 280 hp, 24.7mpg with over 6,800 miles so far, comfort, and handling. The sport seats are great, the sport package suspension handles a lot better, yet rides better than a BMW 325i with a sport package. I am getting +2.5 mpg better than the 03 Honda Accord 3L V6 that I traded in on the same commute, while driving a bigger car with notably more power. I have had no problems with it so far except for the ECU reflash for the throttle hesitation, which worked very well and took 40 minutes. If you have not driven a Passat 3.6, its a sweet deal (especially an 06 leftover pricing: $28,000) with big discounts are available (I got $5,700 off list).

  • Wow what a deal - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

As a 21 year old I was stuck between sport and luxury and since this was my first brand new car it was a very hard choice. I drove so many cars, and I was down to three cars, the Acura TL, Subaru WRX STi, and Nissan Altima SE-R, but none of these compared to when I decided to just go see the Passat. As soon as I saw the interior I was sold. When I drove the car, I was mesmerized, I love the sound of the turbo. It drives like a dream, they have this car almost perfect. My friends swear it looks just like an Audi and my friend who owns a Audi A6 says its identical in drive feel. This is the best choice that I could have made.

  • Dont buy this car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

From day one this car caused problems. I almost backed into a wall a month after owning the car - the brakes failed. I was told it was an air bubble in the brake line. Brake rotors changed, pads changed, and eventually problem went away. Gas cap light came on from the day the car was purchased. It was not until the car had over 50,000 km on it that they found that the gas tank had a leak. Bearings went on the car just over 50,000 km. Stereo CD player had to be changed out. For a high end vehicle the car had too many issues and spent a lot of time in the shop for repairs. This was my fourth VW and my last.
