This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

This vehicle is awesome. Having 3 performance choices with the tiptronic 6 speed transmission, has made the driving experience an excellent one. Just love that refined German engineering. It feels and drives like a Benz. It has a good ride and its very roomy inside. It definetely wont disappoint you!

  • Third One is a Charm too - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my third VW and my 2nd Passat. My first Passat being a 2004 GLS 1.8 turbo. Last weekend I wrecked my 04 in a 60 mhp accident I walked away with only a small cut on my right wrist from a chain I was wearing, the car was totaled. The other car (a 4-Runner was a mess too) that being said I started looking around for another car to buy, with all the deals today IE: employee pricing and 0% interest I checked out almost every maker of cars in the $25,000 to $30,000 range. Nothing out there compares with a Passat unless you want to spend twice as much on a new BMW. The new 06 Passat seems to be a totally differant car then my 04 model. It drives much smoother, faster, it feels like a Mercedes-Benz. Try this car first!

  • Looks great but unreliable - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This was our first (and probably last) VW. Loved the car until all the electronic problems started popping up (too numerous to list). The last problem we had was the well-known defective steering column that needed to be replaced (just last week). How does this common problem not warrant a recall? I love driving the car when it is working, but have no faith that the car will last (and it still only has 26k miles on it!). Just waiting for the next problem to arrive. Ill stick with Acuras/Hondas from here on.

Ive owned my 2.0T for just over 3 years. It has been one of the most satisfying autos I have ever experienced. Ive owned Corvettes, BMWs, Porsches, an Audi, a Cadillac, several Chevys , a couple of Fords and a few others. I think, I can safely say, this is the best of the lot. Itll travel over 500 Highway miles on a tank of gas. Its more comfortable than a couple of BMWs Ive owned. Its fast, it handles pretty well and its never had to go back to the dealer since I bought over 40,000 miles ago. Ive changed the oil (Mobile 1) a few times and recently replaced the original tires. The brake pads still look like new. I bought it new for 22 grand. What a great car. 2 thumbs, way up!

  • A Real Bargain - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The 2007 Passat 2.0T is a very nice car. I had a Saab 9-5 and this has better build quality. It is just as much fun to drive and costs many thousands less. The car is at its best cruising at 80-85 mph. Its safe, secure and smooth at that speed. On a 900 mile trip, I got 32 mpg with the a/c going continuously. The leatherette seats are an acceptable alternative. I wish the drivers seat had full power but the power lumbar is a nice feature. Getting such niceties as a telescopic steering wheel, stability control, tire pressure monitor, sunroof, Tiptronic transmission, full instrumentation, a nicely appointed trunk, and one touch windows on all four doors makes this a real bargain.

  • Outstanding Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my second Volkswagen, but my first Passat, and I love it. I have to give it to Volkswagen, they really put a lot of thought into their cars and they dont leave anything lacking. The Passat is fun to drive, not to mention how well it handles. The turbo is truly a turbo. It looks and feels just like one of the $50,000 cars in its class, but I think its better. My sister bought an Acura TSX three days before I bought my Passat and she likes my Passat better. I was at the Acura dealership ready to purchase one and left because of the price and features. I drove a mile down the street to the same dealership I bought my Beetle from and bought my Passat. Every car I buy from here on out will be a Volkswagen handsdown!

  • 2006 Passat 3.6 - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I test drove a 2.0T Passat a month ago and have to say I was impressed overall. I really wanted to look at the 3.6L and got to test drive last week and it was a THRILL! On pricing, if you load with similar features, the price isnt that much more than a comparable Japanese vehicle. Where the Passat differs is the available 4Motion. Also, the wagon comes out in the spring. Thats what Im waiting for... a 3.6L 4 Motion Passat Wagon (I dont like the height stance of any SUV). Outside of the Subaru Legacy / Outbank, theres no competion and the Subies are less expensive because theyre far more stripped down.

  • WOW! Didnt Expect This From a VW! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This is my first VW; was searching Mercedes when I came across this. I bought mine certified Off-lease. The dealers seem to have a hard time keeping these on their lots; now I know why. Ive owned Lexus and BMW. This ranks right up there, lacking a few luxury features, like full power memory seats, rain sensing wind shield wipers, etc. Drives like a beemer but with a smoother tranny. Great styling turns a lot of heads. Spacious comfortable ride. Exceptional gas mileage compared to competitive class size. Needs stronger AC, better cup holders and improved wind noise, but should expect this from a German car. This is a lot of car for the money. Very fun to drive.

  • LOVE this car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my third Volkswagon since 1998, the previous two being Jettas. I think the 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition is a fantastic car. Its solid, has a nice design, and I feel almost well-to-do driving it. It has a lot of speed for an automatic...I could not believe the take off on the highway. It also has a ton of room and really attractive little features.

  • Psst. Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I dont understand why so many Accords and Camrys continue to be sold when, for a little extra, a Passat can be had. Clearly the best value in a vehicle that we have owned and one of the best vehicles we have owned, period. And, that goes back a ways, folks.
