This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Excellent Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my 2nd Passat. The new car is bigger, has more power, and gets 1.5 mpg gas mileage better than my 2002. The 6M is slick, but it should be available with more options...

  • I have to be honest! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I am a big VW fan and Ive driven 3 different VWs, this 06 Passat is the latest one I owned and then reason I bought it is because of the performance and the design. I already know that they break a lot but i did not know that they REALLY BREAK A LOT! Ive had AC replaced, fuel pressure regulator replaced, rear brake replaced in 2 weeks of ownership- 1 week the car is in the shop. LUCKILY I am still under warranty until 04/2010, I dont know if I should keep this car or not, I still love the car, but I never thought it would be such a big pain, I have to be honest with you guys and it wasted tons of my time and money to drive the car to service and have someone pick me up!!!!!!!!

  • Worst Car EVER! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This is my second VW. I hoped that this car would last for 150-200k miles and now at 86k miles I need a new engine. I have already had the entire steering column computer system replaced, replaced the battery twice, had to have the navigation fixed because the system was stuck, have been stranded because the key would not work, had transmission serviced, the cam is bad ($5k), and the fuel pump is bad ($2k). They acknowledge that they have an issue with the cam and have changed the design because the car is out of warranty will not do anything to assist. VW has offered me $1000 toward the purchase over another VW. No thanks! If you drive a lot... do your research before you purchase!

  • 2006 Passat is a great car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I love this car! I was looking at the usual CamCords, Altimas, etc. But I knew this new styled Passat was for me. It is a fun to drive car! It is, in my opinion, a great looking car. The Dynaudio is fantastic. Never have I heard such a sweet sounding stereo in a car. I have 17" wheels and it looks great and handles the various road surfaces without any problems, wet or dry. The "Sport" mode is great. I enjoy driving in the "Tip-mode" too. I dont usually drive fast, but this car wants to purr along at 80 MPH! And it doesnt feel like its going that fast. The engine just purrs. At 80 MPH, the RPM gauge is at about 2,800. The 2.0T is a sweet engine with plenty enough power for me.

  • Just test drove the 3.6 and WOW! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I just test drove the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6 today and I have to say that it was, well...WOW! The responce of the gas peddle was very impressive. The interior was beautiful and very well thought out. I have been looking at an Audi A6, Mercerdes-Benz E500, and BMW 525i and I would have to say that for the money of the 3.6 it is a definate buy.

This car is the best Ive had. It is luxurious, affordable, and dependable. I could not ask for more! I recommend it to all my friends.

  • VW Passat - continuous repairs - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

While the VW Passat 2.0T is great to drive it requires continuous repairs for all major systems. The interior is nice but when you need 2 visors, one drive gear shift, 2 new lumbar supports, a new trunk latch, new window buttons, etc - do I need to say more - the list just gets longer - and the car is only 4 years old, why would you bother? The hassle with the repairs outweighs the fun of the driving. It is unreliable and there is no guarantee that you can get from point A to B. The latest recall is the engine coils, but what about all the other repair and defective parts that arent being recalled. This car and parts are unreliable -why do you think they decreased the mileage warranty

  • Avoid VW if you want a reliable car. - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This was the worst car my family has owned. The car had numerous problems. The first was one of the xenon headlamps went bad about a week after we bought the car. The second was the windshield wipers wouldnt come on in the rain and the local VW dealership couldnt fix the problem. One of the turn signal lights popped off the car for no reason and had to be rigged to stay in place. The CV boots went bad after about 2 years. There was loud road noise if you didnt have the radio on. The speakers broke also. Problems with the parking brake. The interior lights started coming and the seat had to be removed and it cost 500 bucks.

  • Passat Air Conditioner - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I own the 2.0T 4 cyl. Passat and the air conditioning system is just terrible. Its like having a fan on high. The worst system Ive ever had in a car and its just how its engineered. Nothing can be done about it. The heating system is poor also. Car is fun to drive, handles super. Very peppy for a 4 cyl. But not having even an adequate cooling or heating system is very disturbing.

  • Incredible amount of car for the money - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

It was time for a new car as the lease on my Accord was up. I cross shopped the Camry, Altima and another Accord but was simply blown away at the performance and value of the Passat. Even in the VE you get an incredibly responsive turbo engine, Tiptronic 6-speed auto transmission, 6 airbags, and a host of very cool features. The car is FAST, agile, and extremely fun to drive. This was by far the best bang for the buck and easily the most rewarding driving experience of the cars I considered.
