This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • A driving machine! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I just picked up my Artic Blue Silver 2006 2.0T Passat with Luxury Package 2. It is a dynamite vehicle. I test drove the Honda Accord, and it felt "vanilla." Im so glad that I purchased the Passat. It has a solid feel on the road, the 6th gear really helps quiet the engine (rpms) on the highway. I havent heard any wind noise at 65 mph +. I think that is due to the Dynaudio system which is top-notch! Driving at night with the guages (red/blue) is nice. All of the buttons and touch points are solid!

I previously owned a 98 passat and loved it, even though it gave me nothing but problems. I Recently got the 2006 passat and all i can say is WOW. I am uber pleased with what i got. The original owner paid $32,000.00 and with only 39560 miles on it i managed to get the price from 21k to a simple 16k. By far the best car i have invested in. I love the power and performance. I suggest you use Amsoil Full synthetic oil 5w 40 European blend. It makes the power of the 225hp and turbo show through with amazing up and down shifts also helps car start immediately in cold. This will not be my last Volks. I think that this car will out last my last on. the Germans know how to engineer. Buy one!!

  • Almost as Fun to Drive as my Viper - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I bought a 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6 for my wife but I seem to be doing all the driving in it. Coming from a Mercedes-Benz S500 owner and former Viper owner, this car is a joy to drive. With the Sport package it actually has more options than my 2000 model S500 Benz. It is not quite as smooth, classy looking, or roomy but it definitely is more fun to drive. The navigation system is a bit complicated but it does the trick. When driving in "Sport" mode it has great umff out of the corners. The steering / handling is great. You feel one with the road. The 280 HP makes it easy to pass "Gramps" moseying down the highway.

  • Impressive Improvement - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Having gone from a 2003 Passat to a 2006 model I am impressed. The 06 models motor is more potent. It is quiet, comfortable, has great storage space in front, and is very well thought out and designed. I think this car is a superb town car and great on the road. I got much more than I thought I would be getting.

  • 2006 Passat 3.6L - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I purchased my Passat 3.6L w/ Sport pkg 2 and Navigation system because I wanted to step down from a big SUV. My initial search included the Audi A6, BMW 330, Volvo S80, and Cadillac CSX. I purchased the Passat because overall, I thought the power, fuel economy, interior space, handling and price represented the best value. So far, I love the vehicle. The handling and power are exceptional. The sport package makes the vehicle fun to drive and the electronic dashboard display along with the steering wheel control buttons make driving a pleasure.

  • Keep up with it! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is NOT a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. It is INFINITELY better. Things people forget, however, is that with performance comes a lack of "reliability." Dont read reviews about how people have a lot of problems. This is not a problematic car. It is a car that uses performance parts that needs to be watched and maintained. Mine was big money to keep running, but worth every penny. It drove like a sports car, carried a family like an elite sedan, and looked more expensive than it was. It never had an issue that disabled it, and it never had an issue that wasnt to be expected with the high mileage it had. This car costs about $1500 a year to keep up with repairs and maintenance. Beware, and enjoy.

I love the turbo because it gives this car the kind of guts and power that I was looking for. Its also sophisticated, but doesnt feel stuffy or buttoned-down at all; the perfect blend of classic styling and an understated cool. Smart features like miles remaining on tank of gas, satellite radio, even umbrella storage... someone thought of details here.

  • 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I just got my Passat three days ago, and Im still anxious to go drive it after work. Ive driven many cars, from old rust buckets to top of the line $100,000+ vehicles, and this is right up there with the best of them. The ride is smooth and quiet, and its hard to tell when the engine is even running sometimes. This cars acceleration is incredible for a 2.0T. I have the package 1, and theres far more in the car than the salesperson could ever tell you about. It has an uncanny resemblance to the Audi A6

I absolutely love this car. I have previously owned three Honda Accords and one Lexus IS 250 (a waste of money). I decided on the Passat because of its interior comfort, size, features, performance, and design. The only issues I have experienced are not due to the vehicle, but the dealership. The car had 600 mystery miles on it when new. I later realized my black car had a blue bumper which was repaired by the dealership. The chrome around the windows was also tarnished and the paint has imperfections. I would challenge anyone looking for a new vehicle in this range to try the Passat. What an incredible vehicle for the price. I got mine with Pkg. 1 for $22,500!
