This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • don"t buy a 2006 VW Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Please do your self a favor...RUN don"t walk away from owning a VW especially a 2006 Passat 2.ol. VW doesnt back up their product. There is clearly a design problem with a this year and this model"s engine which ultimately results in your need to replace the engine!! In the 40K plus area the cars begins to burn oil, there is a problem with the cam shaft and high pressure fuel pump. VW puts a bandaid extended warranty that is designed to do nothing. It is carefully worded to protect VW and not the unsuspecting buyer.

This is the best Passat yet. The quality put into this car even rivals Honda. Im a VW fan for life.

  • Pathetic Piece of Junk - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

My Passat was dirty when delivered, with cookie crumbs and coffee stains. It had 700+ unexplained miles on it when it was delivered. It had a major leak in the exhaust system no later than 7 days after I drove it. The radio system often fails to turn off when leaving, you must manually shut system off. The car feels like someone kicks it when accelerating. Now, I have discovered that the MANUAL hand crank on the side of the car will no longer moves the seat up or down. What a piece of junk! Corporate customer service has feigned concern (soft voice, syrupy enunciation). I want action, not platitudes! Inspection reports show conflicting mileages. This car looks nice, but who needs a $27,000 lawn ornament?

  • Horrible Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I bought this car new and was very excited about its overall interior and exterior design and performance. My excitement quickly faded as the car is always in the shop. This is the worst car I have ever owned. It has been in the shop at least every other month. Several of the repairs lasted over a week to correct and I had to rent a car while the repair was made. It has had so many electrical and computer problems I cannot even count them. You name it, it has been broken. Here is the short list, Braking system, fuel system, Every computer system has been broken (some more than once), steering system, tire pressure monitor. NEVER buy this car.

  • A Real pleasure to Drive. - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I really like driving this car. Its styling and performance are just what I was looking for and the price was right too. Ive had the car for four months now and have had no problems at all. I only regret not ponying up for the sunroof/upgraded sound package.

  • Possible Headache with Nightmare - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The sideview mirros are smaller and you can misjudge your clearance to pass. The engine valve are louder ....have had 3 recalls. I took it back and the claim it was repaired.. it is louder. The drivers side door is warped! The front speakers in the door are crackling...no one told you could put change in the top tray.. which fell down behind the dash.. no telling what damage that will cause.. get this you cant slide them out.. after I pay this off ... I am going back to Nissan...

  • Nice Upgrade for VW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I looked at other cars in this class and nothing compared to the price and value of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6. It is fast and fun to drive. Its a nice change from the 2005 Passat, and had a lot less road noise. People ask me if its really a VW.

  • Just Test Drove a 3.6L - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I just tested the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T and luckily the 3.6! The 2.0T is very nice and I was impressed with the overall ride. It didnt handle road bumps like my A6, but I could understand the reason. The A6 is a heavier car. This is still a nice car to drive. Luckily the dealership rep told me that a 3.6 had arrived that day and it was available for me to test drive. I was quite happy that he offered me the chance to road test before even he did. Now this 3.6 Passat is a very pleasing driving thrill! Hit the pedal and off you go. It has very strong power and I love the sound of the motor and exhaust, a really nice growl. I was sold!! I will probably buy within the next month.

  • A lot of car for the money - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

VW hit a homerun with their new Passat. Im surprised to see so many so-so reviews on the internets and in the newspapers. This car is amazing. Ive driven cars of all different engineering, but this is my first with what Germany has to offer. I was a huge fan of Japanese engineering but after driving this car I now understand the rave about German engineering. Everything in the car has a sturdy feel and a innovative look. There are so many small touches that make this car stand out from his competitors. The engine has the widest torque band of I have ever seen and I get 37mpg on the hwy.

  • 2.0T Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The Passat is likely the best value of 2006 sedans; the car is incredibly fun-to-drive, has excellent performance for a 4-cyl, and the highway mileage (at 80 mph) is approximately 30 mpg. The ride is very smooth, even at speeds above 100 mph and the handling is comparable to an Audi A6 (same platform) or a BMW 5-Series, all at a fraction of the price. The 8-speaker sound system is very high-quality and the XM satellite radio option is also superb.
