This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • A Good Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is a really nice car to have. The only thing that stinks about owning this car is the after sales service something, which VW is not great at doing. If you are buying the turbo please please buy it with a manual transmission cause the automatic has turbo lag.

  • Never mind the BMW, get a Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I stepped into this car from a BMW 325i, after considering a 525 or Infiniti G35. The Passat looks, feels and drives better, with more power and same confident German road handling. Not to mention a great deal more interior space and a more comfortable layout. In no time you are doing 60 without any strain on the V6. Its an absolute joy to drive - and for much less than comparably performing cars.

  • I Love My Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Having owned a 2003 Passat, I am amazed at the difference between it and the 2006 model. The 06 Passat feels much larger and heavier but still has the features I liked about my 03. The handling, comfort and excitment are there plus all of the new features.

The Volkswagen Passat 3.6 is so fast so fast and quick. I love that the most about this car. Its maneuverabiltiy is superior to the Acura TL, that I used to own. The sound system rocks, for sure it is the best out there. All of the little details are also very important. I also like the headlights that follow your route. The sleek sexy design is also one of my favorites and its a hip car since I have tinted out the windows, lowered it and added 18 inch rims and tires. This car is one of a kind and should be showcased to give VW a new market for the younger generation.

We thought this was a great car at first. It is a little weak off the line but it has a nice smooth ride. Then, the car locked my wife out on several occasions and spent two days in the shop while they tried to repair it. The dealer ffinally installed a new door lock assembly. Next, it developed a stutter when shifting from first to second. Before it went in for that, the summer heat hit. The gas milage dropped by 10% over five days when running the a/c. I asked them to check that too. Two days prior to the car going into the shop for these items, the A/C quit altogether - just as the temperatures hit over 90. That was twenty-two days ago and we still dont have the car back. Six more days and it qualifies as a lemon in PA.

  • Awesome car until your engine blows - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Brought car in for fuel pump recall/warranty. It was running rough and finally the oil pressure light came on. Had car immediately towed to dealership. Told that the engine with 80K miles is ruined due to lack of oil. Car always had plenty of oil, but apparently the pressure was just low enough to damage engine even though the warning light never triggered before this episode. So a 2006 with 80K miles is toast. Worst car experience we have ever had and we will never buy/lease a VW again. Terrible reliability.

  • Terrific - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Ive only had this car for month thus far, and I absolutely love it. Its the basic 2.0 T model, but its everything I could want. The little extras that come standard with the new Volkswagens make it fun to own and to drive. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. Aside from the "conveniences," this car also offers up exceptional gas mileage.

I was seduced by the turbo and six-speed tranny. However this car is horribly unreliable. The turbo hose disengaged after 2000 miles. The wiper motor broke, and when the dealer replaced it they cracked the windshield. After a couple of additional recalls, Im ready to cut my losses. This car is absolute garbage.

  • Great Performance - Some Glitches - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I have an early release 06 Passat w/Sport package. The performance on the car is great except for the throttle lag problem which I havent yet fixed. I also had probs w/adaptive headlights that took 25 days in the shop to fix. Doesnt make for a happy owner. Also took 2 trips to stop water leaking in trunk. Driver seat had to be repaired after 2 weeks. VW still needs to work on quality. Most problems were in 1st 2 months. Since the car has been great. Its really fast, but wish I could get a real 6 spd stick like the TL, Tiptronic isnt the same.

  • I thought I was in a BMW 3-Series - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition is far and above the rest of the competition. The interior is very tight and quiet compared to my other car, which is a Honda Accord. The interior is so nice that you feel you are in a car with a price tag of $35,000 or so. However for as much as the car gives you for the price you want more. I would really have liked the car to have an iPod plug and a drivers side power seat. But honestly for the lease deal I got I cant complain! You will have to at least drive the car to get a taste of the personality of the vehice, it truly is incredible!
