This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, a base GL sedan and wagon are available. Think of the GL as a GLS 1.8T for buyers who don't require any extras like alloy wheels, leather upholstery, seat heaters or a sunroof. Meanwhile, alloy wheels and sunroof are now standard on GLS models. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will not be offered on GLS V6 models, forcing interested buyers to cross the 30-grand line; however, VW has made stability control (ESP) optional on all Passats (except the W8, which has this standard). Also this year, you'll be able to get W8 sedans and wagons with a six-speed manual transmission and a sport package that includes a firmer suspension and the requisite 17-inch wheels. Lastly, the standard stereo head unit gets backlighting for the buttons.

Pros:
  • Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.

Great car. Drives and handles like a Benz. Gives you a tight and solid feeling around curves and zigzagging.

Very easy review to write. Outstanding car at a very fair price. Feel like im bought a 3-series BMW for $26K! Why spend more. Would buy this car again without hesitation!!

For my 1st VW I am totally impressed. I have owned several Audi Vehicles with Quattro and been very impressed. I owned the original 4000 Quattro and liken this car to it in the sense that it is an exellent value. The performance of a 20 year newer car is of course better by leaps and bounds but at the price that it sells for this car is a value. I am impressed with a wagon that can run with the best of the performance cars of today and is still versitile enough to hall almost anything. This car is new to me and of course only time will tell, but my Audi 4000 went for over 400,000 miles.

This wonderful car is a reliable workhorse. After 4 years of 2k miles a month this car has only needed minor expenses for tune-ups. I cant express how well built and dependable it is. The ride quality is head and shoulders above Camry or Accord. I love my car.

This is our second Passat GLX (our other is a 1999). Neither one has had any problems, and both are a blast to drive. The new bodystyle has brought even more elegance and refinement...I recommend this car to everybody in the midsize sedan category. We looked at both the new Accord EX and 2004 Maxima SL, and although they both have 240+ hp engines, fall short in overall refinement.

I ordered a 03 Passat GLS in September 02 and took delivery January 03. Because of the color (Fresco metallic green with biege leather interior)combination and transmission (manual), I had to order it. It was well worth the wait. I consider this to be a entry level luxury car, not just a midsize sedan. The ride, quietness, performance and workmanship all have exceeded my expectations. The 1.8T works best with the manual transmission. I havent had any problems in the 6 mos. I have owned it. Its a beautiful German made car. It will go faster than most people realize.

We bought this car used, trading in our beloved honda civic. My wife is very pleased, heated front seats, AWD (especially now that we have over a foot of snow!).

  • Wonderful to drive wagon! - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

My previous car was a 1995 Dodge Intrepid, and this Passat wagon beats it in all ways. It drives and handles wonderfully and is very comfortable. Cargo area is nice and roomy. This car is quiet with very little road, wind or tire noise.
