After promising the availability of all-wheel drive this year, Volkswagen, in a last-minute product change, has cancelled the Synchro all-wheel-drive option on all Passats for 1999 and will not be offering the GLS wagon with a V6 engine.
- Tight structure, fun-to-drive, comfortable seats, nice sound system, artful design, an Audi at Volkswagen prices.
- Excessive squat and dive when accelerating and braking.

By Mich63 - November 3 - 10:00 amUnfortunately, I must sell my Passat to get a mini-van because of twin toddlers and I need the space.I have been driving my Passat for 4.5 years and love it!The performance is like driving a sports car. Hugs the road,accelerates fast(I have a 5 speed), and is very fun to drive. The leather package is very comfortable and feel very safe in this car. Stereo sound system is great!The car is very quiet when.The only problem that I have with this car is the electric sunroof. When I close the sunroof, it bounces back open.Ive had this fixed before and problem is back again. Also the 6 cd changer is broken and needs to get fixed as well.

Great Car - 1999 Volkswagen Passat
By Brandon/bswansea - August 6 - 2:13 amI bought my 1999 Passat Wagon new in April of 99. It has the 1.8 litre turbo engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The only option it came with was the leather & cold weather package combo, but I had them add a 6-disc CD changer and alloy wheels. the car is almost 3 years old now and has just over 38000 trouble-free miles on it. The handling and performance are very good. This car gets plenty of power and lots of low end torque.

I recently upgrade from the OE tires (Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus, 195 width) to Bridgestone Potenza RE950s (205 width) and the car handles better than ever.

By Frank Shard - January 2 - 10:00 amMy Wagon has 155K on it, and I have not had a single thing go wrong since I have owned it. The tires may have to be replaced with only 35K on them, but I think thats the tires, not the car. It sounds like some of these people got lemons or something, because my passat is rock solid! I think I can easily get 300K out of this car before its all said and done.
