This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Love It - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This car has really exceeded my expectations and I love all the standard features like the trip computer, the ambiance lighting, electronic parking brake, and auto hold feature. Being able to dive it in automatic and manual modes is very fun.

Out of all the cars I drove, and i drove a lot, none had that feeling I was purchasing a $30,000 vehicle. However, the 2006 Volkswagen Passat 3.6 feels like a $40,000 vehicle and still does even after the purchase.

I just purchased a new 2006 Passat 3.6 and was amazed at the power and performance this vehicle offers. I have allready put 1,000 miles on in the first week and will keep this car for years to come. This will be my third V6 Passat and no vehicle that I have test driven had the saftey and performance that is has.

We drove numerous cars and went with the Passat because it was the best of the bunch.

  • Very Disappointed - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Bought this car new. Issues began appearing within 6 months (steering column replacement, oil disappearing with no leaks, peeling buttons, arm rests, emissions problems still, etc...). Have never experienced so many issues with a new $25,000 vehicle. Will never purchase a VW again. VW should be ashamed. Search the forums for issues on this car before you buy!!!

  • Which way to the Autobahn?! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

After 3 weeks of driving our blue graphite Passat 2.0T we know we absolutely made the right decision. After looking at the Chevrolet Impala, Dodge Charger, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry and Dodge Magnum we stopped by the VW dealer on a whim and after the test drive it was a no brainer. We are constantly being stopped by people asking about the car and have nothing but praise to tell everyone. The drivetrain performance of the 2.0T with Tiptronic is more than pleasing on the road. This car is so tight with virtually no body roll and exceptional handling. I have regular flashbacks to drving BMW & Mercedes rentals in Europe. I cant wait for the sports package with the 280hp 6-cyl. engine when our lease is up!

  • Buyer Beware! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

My VW 2006 Passat just turned 77,000 miles and I brought the vehicle into the dealership becase of a "Check Engine" light and was told that the camshaft needed to be replaced. Upon asking why the camshaft went bad so early in the cars life, the dealer stated that this is due to infrequent oil changes or the wrong oil being used. I showed proof of eleven oil changes (only requires 7) using the recommended Europeon Synthetic blend, but VW would not assist in payment of the repairs. $3,000 repair - thanks VW. DO NOT BUY VWs!!!

  • Best Audi for the money.... - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I had test driven the new BMW 5-Series, the Audi A6 and S4 before leasing this vehicle. The new 06 Passat is completely redesigned and it is quite simply, the most affordable "Made in Germany", luxury sedan in the world! The spacious interior and powerful 200 bhp turbo engine make this Passat the best offering VW has ever made to a thirsty American consumer, unable to wait for Alfa Romeos return, or unable to afford their flagship Audi branded sedans. It was almost identical in drive, ride, handling and braking as the new 06 Audi A6 sedan...but for exactly HALF the price! Why would anyone buy an Accord or Camry, when this fine German made vehicle is available?

  • 2006 Passat Gas Mileage - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

Just bought a 2006 Passat 4 cylinder turbo. Gas mileage is about 20 miles per gallon in town; 30 to 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a great driving car. It gets good gas mileage for such a comfortable car (25 - 30 mpg). However, mine has 6,000 miles on it and has been in the shop for four different problems, a broken winshield wiper motor and three check engine lights. The dealer has been helpful and always offers a loaner but it is still frustrating. I am afraid I will not be able to afford this car when the warranty expires! The dealer explained that they have experienced a high number of problems with the new Passats, a high incidence of similar problems. I wish VW would address the problem with these repeat problems before my check engine goes off again instead of after. Also, repair parts are not always readily available.
