Overview & Reviews
The big news for 2004 is the addition of a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine to the lineup late in the model year. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is a delayed option on 1.8T-equipped GLS models. Also note that the 2.8-liter V6 is no longer available on GLS models. The premium Monsoon stereo and Homelink are now standard on all GLS models, while wood trim has been added to the optional Leather Package. The ESP stability control system is now standard on the GLX. Rounding out the changes are restyled 15- and 16-inch wheels and new side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
- Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
- Expensive upper-level models, less rear-seat room than some competitors, some confusing interior controls.

Great car - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By jmg - May 21 - 7:53 pmA year and 7,500 miles after buying the car, it has been to the shop once -- for the scheduled oil change and service. Couldnt ask for more from a family wagon. It handles the streets of Manhattan just as nicely as the interstate. And lots of room for all our stuff.

problems - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By FUSTRATED - May 15 - 10:00 amthis car has had the onstar computer replaced 4 times and still has the same problem VW blames onstar. VW is aware of a hard downshift problem for over 6 months all they tell the owner is they are waiting for the program from Germany. It dost take that long to build a car.

Savin Money - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By duckster1 - May 15 - 10:00 amThe car has beena unique experience, I laugh every time I fill it up thinking it gets about the same mileage as a motorcycle without getting wet or cold. Folks ask me all the time about how I like it and so far its VWs best kept secret. The noise while idling is different as is the powerband but both get accustomed to very quickly. I would recommend this car before any Hybrid as the safety and simplicity are second to none.

there nothin like a V8 - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Mark B. - May 15 - 10:00 amFun, fun, fun to drive!!; awesone steering and acceleration (especially merging unto a highway) and love the raspy engine sound. The interior is first class (I have owned many BMWs, Mercedes, Accuras + other high end car, and the quality in the W8 is second to none). This car is a looker and gets notice.

Passat Major Problems - 2004 Volkswagen Passat

Not worth it - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By j4ora - May 15 - 10:00 amI had this car for 4 months and every month something breaks. Door wont open, window wont go down. AC fails intermittently. Lastly, oil was leaking from unknown location. But dealer said it was my mechanic. When my mechanic removed bottom cover, it was already full of oil marks. Dealer will sell you lemon vehicles without notifying you. Over-all experience BAD.

I LOVE MY PASSAT - 2004 Volkswagen Passat
By Terra Fornof - April 13 - 2:00 amI LOVE THIS CAR!! THE ONLY THINGS I CAN THINK OF THAT I DONT LIKE IS THE SLUGGISH TAKE OFF IN SITUATIONS WHEN YOU REALLY HAVE TO GET ON THE GAS FROM A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE MONSOON SOUND SYSTEM IS ONLY GOOD FOR CDS. OTHERWISE I HAVE GOTTEN SO MANY COMPLIMENTS ON WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CAR IT IS. ITS NICE TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE A BRAND NEW SYLISH CAR FOR A DECENT PRICE. THERE IS NOTHING I WOULD CHANGE ABOUT THE INTERIOR EITHER. IT IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND LUXURIOUS TO BE SO AFFORDABLE. AS A FORMER 99 BMW 323 OWNER, IT HAS ALL THE LOOKS OF LUXURY INSIDE AND OUT, BUT OFCOURSE YOU CANT COMPARE IT TO THE ENGINE OF A BMW! (OR THE PAYMENT!)
