This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • One to smile about - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is our second Passat, the first being a 98 1.8T 5-sp. I loved that car, but my wife decided it was time to go more "upscale", so we moved on to BMW. Since then, I have had two 7 series Bimmers, two 3 series and a 02 Altima 3.5 SE. I traded my tired 2000 740iL in on this gorgeous 06 3.6 Passat. United Gray/ Mocha Latte. I spent two full days looking at everything from Chrysler 300s to Mercedes E350s. Infiniti BMW and Audi. Guess what,......this is BAR NONE the BEST car for the money out there. I too keep finding new things to smile about in this car. The Dynaudio system is a blast, and built in XM (or Sirius) is easy to use. Power and Handling are tops in this arena.

I just traded in my 2004 Passat GLS for a new 2006 Passat. Just when you think VW has topped what it can do, it pulls this one out. This Passat is the BEST one yet. It has kick but power in the 4-cylinder motor! The new design is AWESOME and the interior is roomier and the design Kicks. I drove the Audi, Honda, and Altima before this car. The only car that comes close is the Audi and you pay much less for the Passat. Go test drive the car and I guarantee you will leave the lot with one.

  • Passat 3.6 Sport is the Best FWD Car on the Planet - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I bought a Passat 3.6 with Sport Package 1. The Recaro seats in the sport model are superior to anything I have tested or ridden in, including my dads Mercedes-Bernz S420. The leather is baseball glove quality, incredible. The 3.6L engine has great power and torque max is at 2,750 rpm (better than the Infiniti G35). This car has a solid Mercedes-like feel that is absent in the Acura TL, Toyota Camry, etc. The manufacturer incentives (for leftover 06 models) dropped the price so low that NOTHING else competes: It costs $4,000 - $5,000 less than the TL or a comparably equipped Infiniti G35 (though no interior option is actually as nice in either). The sport pkg. also has stiffer springs and shocks and sits 15mm lower, I love it. The steering feel is light but accurate, but I would prefer more effort.

Ive had my 06 passat for almost three years but i has caused me so many problems, I am always at the dealership, it started with my windows not rolling down and it spent about two weeks to be repaired. My carpet in the interior started tearing when it was a few months old, and is reaping again after it was fixed, tire pressure sensor is on and off, air bag failure, to major problems such at recall on fuel pressure sensor that has been replaced three different times, and now the camshaft and fuel pump has to be replaced.....this car is comfortable but not reliable everyday i drive im afraid is going to leave me stranded never again will i purchase a vw! hopefully this is helpful for whoever

  • Great Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I checked out the 3.6 Passat this week. I was floored at how nice this car is. It handles like nothing Ive ever driven before. The car Im getting out of is a 2003 Acura TL, which is pretty nice also, but the Passat is something special. The layout of the guages and controls on the dash, and with many controls on the steering wheel, makes it easy to adjust things on the move. At night the red and blue interior lighting is breathtaking. The lighting on all switches, knobs, etc., and the ambient red lighting bathes the console and dash in a soothing, red glow. I signed the papers today for a 3.6 with the Luxury Package 2, in United Grey, with black leather. Just Mud Guards are the only extras.

  • WOW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I test drove the car about 6 months ago, I revisited the dealership on a whim. I re-test drove the vehicle and enjoyed the feel. I purchased the car, not expecting to buy a car, and have not been let down since. I am used to the perfomance of Saabs and Volvos and I am not dissapointed at all with this car, more so excited to drive it every day. This is a great car with a great driving experience.

  • Passat better then ever - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I love my Passat. I have put 5,400 miles on it already; city and travel with 26.4 mpg. This is the second Passat that I have owned. Nitpicks: cruise control lever easily knocked, front of seat cushion not adjustable, key is clunky and may cause problems with lockout. Otherwise car is a full 10.

This is a second chance survey to help offset my previous post. VWoA came through with a software fix, reflashed the ECU and KAPOW!, the car has come to life!! There is no more throttle lag and hestitation, lurching or bucking. Now it is smooth, linear power delivery and fun to drive factor just tripled. Had it been like this originally I would have given it a 10.0. Kudos VW!

  • An Excellent Choice - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is a car for the ages. I believe price is irrelevant but its nice to buy a car under $30,000 and get $60,000 worth of quality and performance. Im coming from an Audi A4 and this is a finer car in comfort, appearance, safety and performance. People should test drive the Lexus, the Mercedes, the Jag and the BMW and THEN take a drive over to the VW dealer and take the Passat for a spin. Youll be shaking your head in disbelief as the Passat is the complete package. Its got it all.

  • If only it were reliable - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

When I bought this car I totally loved it. I drives great and was fun to drive. I never noticed until I went to sell it and got the vehicle service history printed out that I took it in 14 times for non-standard maintenence in 4.5 years. This is ridiculous. As soon as the warranty ran out, then I had to start paying for repairs out of pocket. Sooo disappointing. I would have loved to have kept this car, but the unreliability is so huge. Ive previously owned another VW before this that had some problems. I will never buy another VW. Again, the reliability is terrible. I think VW should pay me back for the 3 visits to dealer in one month alone that cost nealy $3500.
