This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, a base GL sedan and wagon are available. Think of the GL as a GLS 1.8T for buyers who don't require any extras like alloy wheels, leather upholstery, seat heaters or a sunroof. Meanwhile, alloy wheels and sunroof are now standard on GLS models. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will not be offered on GLS V6 models, forcing interested buyers to cross the 30-grand line; however, VW has made stability control (ESP) optional on all Passats (except the W8, which has this standard). Also this year, you'll be able to get W8 sedans and wagons with a six-speed manual transmission and a sport package that includes a firmer suspension and the requisite 17-inch wheels. Lastly, the standard stereo head unit gets backlighting for the buttons.

Pros:
  • Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.

  • Great car...look for the new 2005!!!!!! - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Well, i bought my new car in September 2002 and so far i am very happy with it. What has been bothering me are the front lights that have gonne bad several times so far(4 times exactly) but i hope they will do a better job with the future generations. Allready have 50,000 miles on it and have not had another problem whatsoever. I am looking forword for the New Passat which is expected for late 2004 and will have more choices of engine one of which is the 3.2L 240HP. Finally i have to say that I love my car!!!!!

A quality car with a very high "fun" quotient. Easy to control and highly predictable even if you push the limits on a curve. Excellent ride similar to a luxury sedan, handles most road bumps with ease. Quiet and pleasant interior. Responsive to the drivers style the the adaptive automatic transmission, or you can shift it yourself. Seat comfort is excellent in front, good in back. What a great car!

the Passat 4motion system works well and the car has a very solid feel. Much more comfortable ride than Subaru Forester but not as firm as most SUVs. Styling is attractive and the controls are intuitive,

With our 2 kids we werent sure whether we made the right decision about buying a wagon over a mini-van. I am so glad we got this wagon!! It hauls as much as a minivan, gets great mileage (averaging 32mpg), very comfortable both up front and in the back seats and is a blast to drive. We got into an accident early on and the wagon handled it like a tank. This thing is built like a tank. For a family of 4 or less, this is the car to get.

After driving Chevys and Fords all my life it is nice to find a car that is both reliable and fun. Living in the Pacific NW the traction contol really comes in handy during those long winters and my frequent trips over the passes to Seattle.

  • Outstanding Car - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Ive had my Passat for a almost five months and I still absolutely love it! I strongly considered the Acura TSX and the new Saab 9-3 and looked at the Passat as an afterthought. Even though the TSX has a slightly higher horsepower rating, the Passat felt MUCH more powerful when I test drove them both in the same afternoon. The fit and finish of the Passat continues to amaze me and blows away most people who get in the car for the first time- the attention to detail and standard feature content is very impressive.

  • Perfect Fit - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

I had a Lexus SC300 so I am used to luxury. In purchasing this my 2003 Volkswagen Passat, I had to make sure it had all the comfort and options that I was used to. I was just looking for something bigger to fit my family needs. This Passat did just that. It is fun to drive, and my children like all the lights at night, they look cool according to them! LOL. I love that it plays my burned CDs and I love my heated seats. The 4Motion is wonderful, since I was used to the rear wheel drive with the Lexus, and that was an uncomfortable feeling in the winter. Now I feel stuck on the road. I also have room to fit a ton of groceries and my children are not cramped. I also get a ton of compilments, and that I like!

  • Impressive - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Following test drives of the new Accord, Camry, A4, Maxima, and Volvo S60, the Passat was ahead of the pack in several categories. The main ones being the combination of features (V6, tiptronic, ESP, Monsoon, etc.) for the reasonable $30k price tag. Love the ride quality and responsiveness. Dont by a car without test driving the Passat.

An oddity: a luxury car from a non-prestige name. The interior is gorgeous. (A VW/Audi hallmark.) The W8 engine is smooth and powerful. The AWD system is the best available: VW 4motion IS Audi quattro. Tight precise steering and a well-tuned (sport) suspension. So sure-footed even in blizzards that it exudes confidence. And its a wagon -- so it has tons of space. A fully-loaded family truckster shouldnt be able to blow the doors off 3-series and G35s; this one can. But what family truckster of old was this polished? Its like a buff gymnast in a nice Italian suit. Dont compare it with other Passats; the luxuries it offers are more in line with the A6/allroad and 5-series.

This is the 3rd year for this model. I traded up from the 2000 to the 2003, and IMHO, the car just keeps getting better.
