This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Needed new engine at 7,720 miles - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I was a big fan of this car until the "check engine" light came on at about 7,700 miles. It started to drive like it was using 4 cylinders instead of 6. The dealer says that they arent sure exactly what went wrong, but one piston ring seems to be defective...so they are replacing the engine. I just hope that it runs like new when I get it back.

  • Spacious - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is a great car and have owned BMWs, Mercedes, Hondas, Lincolns, and more. It has very spacious leg room, heated seats, and huge headroom. My son is 66" and it has enough legroom for him and can even fit a body behind him. It has a great sunroof and more. Its gas mileage is excellent plus it provides great airbag protection.

  • Sooner its gone the better - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This vehicle while is fun to drive has spent more time with the mechanic than with us. 5 trips to fix the injectors, 4 trips the second time they went in only 140Km. I cant believe 2 sets of injectors in only 140Km. All 4 wheel bearings failed before 80Km, AC failed, trunk release failed, and on and on. The dealer would try something and when surprise it wasnt fixed told us to book another appointment, great except we live 5 hours from the nearest dealer, in one case it took 4 trips to fix one little problem. NO support from the VW dealer so we phoned VW Canada and all I got was "thats the way our warrenty works" I guess that means tough luck consumer. Stay away from this vehicle.

  • Problems - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T has been in the dealership for a total of 14 work days to fix problems with it. The check engine light went on and I cant lock the doors or the alarm will go off. The interior lights go on while driving and the doors unlock and lock while driving. The stereo volume goes up and down (told I have to live with that according to my dealer). They still cant figure out what is causing the problems.

This car is great mine is at 160 k miles the inside of my buttons and locks buttons did peel and bubble but its only a 50$ fix... People complain about the up keep costing so much but ITS A VOLKSWAGEN! It is not an american car repairs cost more the engine is not regular its all new technology if you cant afford up keep you shouldnt buy a foreign car. Its like buying a name brand purse to look rich but not having any cash in it. [non-permissible content removed]

  • Germany Wins Again with the New Passat! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

We were in the market for a high-end car such as the Bimmer 328i and the Audi A4, but the price was a bit too high. So, since we wanted a nice price on German engineering (Im German, so Im biased), we went to VW and test drove the Passat. We loved the car from the first drive! This car has power! Shes a classy gold color-a real looker, fun, fuel efficient, very comfortable, and lets not forget safe! It even has excellent IIHS safety ratings! We are very impressed with the ride. And, along with the Lord, the ABS saved my husbands life today, after someone slammed their brakes on in front of him. So, we definitely do recommend the Passat to anyone who wants high quality at an affordable price!

  • Best car I have had - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

Purchased this 06 Model with all the Luxury options available that year. The car had 43k miles but came with a 2yr./24k bumper to bumper warrenty. Included was 90 days Sirius Radio free. This car is out of this world, its by far the finest automobile I have ever owned. Beautiful to look at from any angle, great interior ergonomics, outstanding performance and my gas mileage for combined driving is in the high 20s. The smile never goes away when I am driving this Passat or just looking at it in my driveway. All this praise and I have only had the car for 5 weeks. I would recommend this Passat be on your check out list when looking for a world class automobile.

  • My own toy - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I went to test drive a Jetta, but just could not resist the temptation of the Passat. The Accord (my other option) looked too standard for my taste, Too many on the road to feel that you are driving your own toy.

  • VWROOOOOM - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I love my new Volkswagen Passat 2.0T. It is so unique and a real head turner. The Turbo 2.0 feels like a little Jet and the Tiptronic transmission is a blast. This is a cice car that beats the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord hands down, with a bit of style too. I compare it to the BMW 5-Series easily.

  • Great Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat is definitely a looker! I have the Mocha Brown color (that looks grey sometimes and black other times, and then brown other times) with tan leather interior. Its a very sharp looking car. It is very fun to drive!
