This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Our new Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

After looking at many mid size cars we recently chose the new 2006 Passat sedan. We were looking for a sedan that was roomy, safe, comfortable, with good gas mileage for our family. The new Passat stood out from in a crowed market. We previously owned a nice Mercury Mountaineer but the low gas mileage and constant rise in the price of gas was killing our budget. Even though we have owned the car for only a short time we are so impressed with all the features of the 2006 Passat.

We still enjoy the driving experience. With over 15,000 miles, the only maintenance has been three oil changes. The ride is smooth and reasonably quiet. Stability and traction control keep the car where the driver wants it to be. Its average gas mileage is OK at ~26 mpg. The interior is very comfortable (we are small drivers at 56" tall) over long periods (drives from Ohio to Florida and Maine) of time on the road. The turbo engine is powerful enough for us with lots of acceleration from the turbo boost. Overall, this car is a a good value at $27,000 with all the technology, safety and performance equipment included. We would buy this car again.

  • No more VWS - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Ive owned Jettas before, but this Passat is pure junk. Its been in the dealership more than with me. Replaced Throttle Valve Control, Crankcase Breather Valve, CV Joint Boot, Catalytic Converter, Compressor Condenser, the list goes own! It also has intermittent noise when accelerating (but only I can hear it). Bought extended warranty-at present Ive spent $400 this year already in deductibles.

  • nice and tight - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Thats the best way I can explain the handling and ride. I just leased the Passat 2.0Twith pkg. #1, cold weather pkg. and 17" rims for $390 a mo. for 36 mo. sign and drive. Ive had a Honda Accord EX-V6 before and I thought that was an excellent car, but this VW is really what driving is about. The 17s really make the difference. Good luck to all with the vehicle!

  • Second Passat...Even Better! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

We had an 04 Passat GLX 4-Motion that I loved except for poor gas mileage. We just got the Passat 2.0T w/ lux pkg 2, 17" wheels, Dynaudio and navigation. We just love the "riding on rails" stiffness of the new Passat! The added size pleased my family and me greatly. The navigation system plus compass makes my on the road job more enjoyable. Even with only 300 mi. on the odometer Im getting high 20s mpg vs. 20.4 for the 04 4-Motion. I really didnt need the AWD so Im happy to get the better gas mileage. This cars build quality (like on the 04) is superb! My friends who are "car guys" love it...and so do I!

  • Loooove it! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I owned an Audi allroad before purchasing this Passat and aside from the curb weight difference - I didnt get the 6T engine in the Passat - Id choose the Passat over and and over again, hands down! It drives, rides, and feels better than the 2001 Audi! I looove it! It looks awesome, too!

  • Typical German Car - Driver Oriented - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

As typical of German cars, the Passat is fun to drive. The 2.0T is quick and responsive. The variable mechanical assist steering is a plus - the car is highly maneuverable in the parking deck (great turning radius) but stable and tight at highway speeds where you feel connected to the road. I think the jury is still out on the FOB ignition key. Why not have a RF system with push button ignition and door unlocking sensing? I like the driver’s side glove box and other storage bins. As luck would have it I test drove the car in pouring rain and found the driver’s door umbrella required me to get wet to pull it out with the door swung open.

  • Good car for good price - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

We were going to pick up a Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup truck and saw the new Passat on the other side of the dealership (same dealer). After our test drive we were sold! We love the car with the heated seats and the moonroof. At night the dash looks very cool with the red and blue allumination. And the cars handling is great too!

  • B6 better than a B5? You bet! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

Knowing about front end geometry I am amazed that the new Passat handles better than the previous model but it does. The new 2.0T is a perfect engine, plenty of power, quiet and great economy. Im getting 28 MPG and Im sure I can get more, its just too much fun to push that throttle. This Passat is quiet rides well and the driving experience is a hoot! If you are looking for a sedan that will carry you family and friends but, you still want some fun the Passat is a must see.
