This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • VW vs. BMW - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I own a 2005 BMW 530 with the Prem. and Spts Pkg. On 12/1/05 I bought a VW Passat 2.0 T Pkg. 2 with 17" wheels, Dynaudio, and mats. The car listed for $30,000. This car was for my wife, but now we seem to like the VW as we go out in it more than in the BMW. For the size of the engine, it is probably the best for the money. I highly recommend the car. I am thinking about getting a 3.6 All Whell Drive Passat with GPS ($40,000). It seems to run like a BMW 550i for $22,000 less.

  • Definitely Not a Camry! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The Passat 3.6 4Motion is quite an awesome car! I did months of extensive research on buying a replacement car for my wife; deciding between the 2007 Camry, 2007 Infiniti G35, and the 2006 Acura TL. Although the Camry is a better value, the Passat is so much more fun to drive! The G35 and TL were just too expensive and lacked interior rear seat room. I have two teen sons over 6 tall and they have plenty of room in the back seat. The value for what you get in the Passat is awesome; you get Mercedes/BMW amenities for a Buick price! Although the car listed at $40,000 (sport package, fully loaded), I was able to get it for $33,000 from the dealer, as they were hot to get rid of the 2006 models; making it an incredible value!

  • Waste of Money. Do not buy. - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I bought a 2006 VW 2.0t passat, with 48,000 miles in may of 2009. This car is a piece of junk. Thank goodness I had a certified pre-owned warranty on it, good until 75,000.2 months after buying this, a transmission valve (I think that what its called. Not much of a car expert.) broke. Repair costs totaled $1400.00, which I didnt have to pay b/c of the warranty. 5 months later, the check engine light came on. VW told me that my gas cap wasnt on tight enough. I took it to the dealer, $2200.00 worth of stuff wrong. Once again, all covered under warranty, thankfully. Last week, had to have the car towed from work. Engine gasket broke and pcv valve bad. $500.00. Trading it in tomorrow.

We bought the car used and some initial issues and vw stepped up and fixed them with no questions and even replaced some items that we did not expect. The car handled great had plenty of pep when needed and we averaged around 27 mpg. Now we do not have a lead foot but the car on the highway at over 75 still got over 30 mpg. Now after over 140k it is a sad parting as we move up to a mid size suv.

  • Very Impressive - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

VW cut no corners in this vehicle. Quality craftmanship on the interior especially with the seats, dash board, access to controls and visibility. Very tight car with little outside noise. No rattles! Exterior is very attractive with features such as turning headlights. You can see and feel a lot of Audi in the car. This is my third Passat and will consider a 4th when time runs out on this vehicle. AWESOME CAR!

This is my first Passat, I had two Jettas before and was happy with them. My wife and I had looked at many cars and It came down between the Passat and the Nissan Maxima. We took the Passat (with Package 1) because it is just so much fun to drive and I really like the interior layout. Take it for a test drive, and you may end up buying one.

  • VW Gets Serious! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I just recently purchased my 2006 Passat 2.0T. So far its a fun, sporty sedan with a grown up style. I am a 35 year-old guy who doesnt want cheap looking or wannabe quality feeling components.

  • An Unknown Treasure - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

There is so much hype surrounding Japanese cars that the Passat remains relatively unknown and overlooked. The car is outstanding, it oozes quality everywhere you look. The other day I left it at a public parking lot in a posh neighborhood and the guy who drove it back to me said, "This is a really nice car." This from a guy who sees all types of cars in that neighborhood. The car drives so well, its responsive, fast, comfortable, and it has so many optional features Im still discovering some of them after one month of owning it. In fact, after I checked Accord with all added options that come standard in my Passat, the Accord was actually more expensive. The Passat is a family, yet sporty sedan with a German touch!

Iecently bought a 2006 Passat 3.6 with luxury package 1. Man will this car move. It delivers great performance and I love the handling of the car. The premium sound system is great along with the XM radio. I love the blue/red dash at night and the dual climate control. I drove a Toyota Camry, Nissan Maxima and BMW and this car had them all beat.
