This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, a base GL sedan and wagon are available. Think of the GL as a GLS 1.8T for buyers who don't require any extras like alloy wheels, leather upholstery, seat heaters or a sunroof. Meanwhile, alloy wheels and sunroof are now standard on GLS models. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will not be offered on GLS V6 models, forcing interested buyers to cross the 30-grand line; however, VW has made stability control (ESP) optional on all Passats (except the W8, which has this standard). Also this year, you'll be able to get W8 sedans and wagons with a six-speed manual transmission and a sport package that includes a firmer suspension and the requisite 17-inch wheels. Lastly, the standard stereo head unit gets backlighting for the buttons.

Pros:
  • Fun to drive, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.

  • Not Bad, Its Great! - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Ive had my Passat now for almost 2 years and have put 31,000 miles on it. There has been only one issue with the car. the coil packs went and where replace by the dealer. Besides that its been a kick ass car. i drive very agresive and the car handles turns, accelerating and decelerating really well. I drive mostly city and 70-80 mph on the highway and get 21.3 MPG not bad for my style of driving. I have no complaints. I wouldnt give this car up for any thing. I plan to modify the car to get 210hp from the standard 170hp. Easy to Modify very inexpensively to increase the engines performance. Go get one, trust me.

I have had the car for 3 days now and have loved every minute of it. I have always had a sports car but decided that with expanding a family I needed a sedan. This car has the power and drivability of a sports car with a luxury ride. It is a car that exceeds my expectations.

Recently bought this car to replace our Volvo V70 wagon which broke down. Wow, is this car great. In hindsight I wish I would have never bought the Volvo. The feel and drive of this car is great. It seems to be well designed and engineered. The interior is luxurious, and the car handles great. The 4Motion system which is really the Audi Quattro system is very responsive. I look forward to many great years with this car.

Traded in my Lexus RX300 for this beaut. Love this car, 1 month into the lease. Red/blue dash at nite is awesome. Great stereo system (better than Lex). Wish there was more room for stuff inside! Handling is a little squishy but really I have no complaints. This suckers FUN to drive.

This is the greatest car Ive ever owned! One of the few cars in my price range that had any style ant all. This is the only nice-sized, safe,well- equiped, economic car that doesnt look like I inherrited it from my dad! I bought the car because of the way it looked, but love it for the safety features, the way it handles. Its a great car for long trips-good leg & trunk room.

This is a wonderful car that has given me few problems in the time Ive owned it. The AWD allows me to corner at any speed I want and never complain. Ive been able to drive through rain and then a couple of feet of snow and it feels no different that driving on dry pavement. This really feels like it is the Audi in VW clothing.

  • Great Car-Compares to near luxury class - 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Great car. It is tight, handles great, and has plenty of power with the 1.8 turbo. I drove the Saab 9- 3, Audi A-4, Acura TSX before deciding on the Passat and love it! It has more room than the A4, and is thousands less. The Saab is nice, but again the Passat does it all better for less, and the Acura..blah, blah. The Passat could easily compete with cars costing $10,000 more. I drove the 6cyl Passat and preferred the 1.8, it felt peppier with the turbo, and is easier on the gas, the leather adds a lot of luxury to the car, with leather wrapped steering wheel & controls, heated seats, rear sunshade and heated nozzles...its worth it.
