This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • Wow - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I looked at many cars like the BMW 525i, Saab 9-5, and Lincoln MKZ. The last car I had was an Audi S4 and we all know that was a hot car. I took out the VW for a test with the dealer sitting next to me so I didnt really give it a test. The dealer gave me a fair price and I took the car home. That when I realized that this was not just a family car. This car was more fun then the S4 because when your driving an S4 around town you can get yourself in trouble quickly so you tend to drive more reserved. The VW 2.0T is just a hot fun car.

The Passat 2.0T is a fantastic, fun car! VW has come up with a winner this time. It has plenty of interior space and lots of trunk room. The Passat 2.0T has power to spare and does not diappoint during freeway driving. Its stylish exterior completes the package.

I just test drove the new Passat. Just before my visit to the VW dealership I took a Honda Accord Coupe out for a test drive, an Acura TL and even considered the BMW 3-Series. The Passat definitely blew me away with all of its hidden gadgets and features. Im going to buy mine in 3 days! Deep black baby...

I just took delivery of my 06 Passat 3 days ago, the first night I sat in it for 2 hours figuring all of the options out. The upgraded Dyna Audio system with the XM radio is sweet. The leather is really nice, the sun/moon roof is very quite even wide open. The transmission is cool with the 3 different options. Regular drive, sport and tiptronic. I have not even gotten to the smooth ride and quickness. The lease special is the deal. I traded a 2000 Jetta.

Hands down the best car Ive ever purchased. Traded in my A6. The Passat still looks great even after 2 years and 22,000 miles. The only problem Ive had is the windshield washer not working which the dealer fixed right away. Other than that just regular maintenance. Im getting first class treatment from the dealer. They treat me better than the Audi dealer (Don Rosen) ever did. I am using regular gas and still getting 36 mpg on the highway, 25 mpg around the neighborhood. The interior is so solid. Not one creak or rattle. It has been a pleasure to drive and I will definitely be looking at the Passat CC next year.

I own a 2006 passat sedan, the first year of owning the car my catalytic coverter went out. From that point each year a major componet on the vehicle goes out. Now I keep getting check engine light, the oil has to be replaced often and the cost to repair vehicle continues to rise. Now I have a camsgaft issue that is causing the regulator to leak. This is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I tell everyone I know and dont via reviews to stop buying vw vehicles. They dont stand by their product. Its pure garbage, since owning the vehicle I have spent approx. 7500 in repairs. Please dont be fooled into buying this product. Its DAMAGED and UNTRUST WORTHY!!!!!!!

  • Just Right For Me - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I feel I have owned the car long enough to have thoroughly judged it. Mine is a fully loaded sport/luxury package minus the nav (won’t pay the price for a factory nav) I bought the car new and compared the BMW 330, Mercedes CLK, Audi and Maxima. For me the bang for the buck in the Passat was a winner. I am 6’4” and this car fit me best of all those. I regularly make 300+ miles and my back and legs do excellent! I paid less than most and more than others got a great deal for the package. A feature I refused to pay for but now can’t live out are parking sensors! There is a weird hesitation on the throttle that everyone deals with. It took me 6 months to master but now I don’t even notice.

Have owned various makes including 8 VWs. This is far the best. Dynaudio is superb. Energetic power with good mpg. Fit/finish is first rate. Comfortable, and fun to drive. When it comes off lease, my wife has already suggested another VW.

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T is great when it is not in the shop. Mine has been in the shop for five different problems in 7,000 miles. It is very glitchy. I am very concerned about ownership post warranty.
