This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • 06 Passat is a Great Value - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

My first VW was a 99 Jetta which I absolutely loved. I traded it in for an Acura CL in 2002 and have now gone back to VW with my new Passat. No one builds a car in this price range ($28,000) that feels as solid and high-end. The materials are better than my friends BMW. It rides extremely well (quite and smooth) and I love the innovative features (umbrella holder in the drivers door). What I like the best is that you can feel the road without feeling the bumps and the car is very responsive (like when you need to change lanes quickly because someone just cut you off on the highway). The only drawback is that the turbo lags when starting from zero. It kicks out 200hp but it takes it a minute.

After owning 5 Nissans in a row a friend of mine, reccomended the Passat to me, boy am I thankful for that. It is far and away best car purchase Ive ever made. I love everything about this car including its overall handling, power, and safety features. The stereo is amazing and the interior is roomy and beautiful. In conclusion, I love this car and so does every one of my freinds and family.

I bought this car used with 70,000 miles on it and so far its been a joy to drive. As a college student, I enjoy having a unique car because noone my age has the same car as me. My friends are always surprised when they get in my car and find out how comfortable and spacious it is, not to mention how fast this car can go. I do have issues with the check engine light coming on but it goes away. I got the extended warranty so its not a big deal to me. Ive driven many different cars because I used to work at a car rental company and this is one of the best cars in its class. Also a great deal for a used car because of its depreciation. Im probably buying another VW after this.

  • Best New Car I have Ever Purchased - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

My 2006 Volkswagen Passat Value Edition has a great ride. It has a lot of rear leg room. Its quality is great inside and out. This is my first Volkswagen and I love it.

  • What a Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I have just acquired my third Passat in a period of seven years. The latest, a 2.0L FSI Turbo, is an absolute dream. It is greatly improved in all aspects compared to its predecessors. I am in a position to afford most luxury sedans, but after test driving the competitors like BMW and Merceded, there is absolutely nothing that VW does not offer in comparison. The 2006 model has everything one could expect for the price. I have owned eight VWs in my lifetime and will remain loyal provided they keep there built quality and allure. Well done Wolfsburg

I have been waiting for this car for 2 years since my 2002 Passat 1.8T, with sports package, its hard to find another better buy if you really care about performance and engineering.

  • VW gets another chance! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

As a former Jetta owner, I was hesitant to enter in the VW world again. I fell in love with this Passat. I almost bought the Acura TL, but for thousands less, I got a bigger interior and better gas mileage. You cannot beat the 4 year warranty, roomy interior, and a car that is a blast to drive! So far so good!

  • No Matter What Else I Buy... - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I always end up back in a VW. This is my sixth one, and my second Passat (2005 TDI was the first) and this new 2.0T is just an amazing car. Since 2001 Ive owned 19 new cars, among them a 2005 Acura TL, Nissan Murano, Audi TT Roadster, Acura RSX, Jetta 1.8T. The Passat is nicer than all of the above, including the TL. Its fit and finish is superb. The car feels rock solid. The controls are perfectly weighted. The steering is awesome and the power from the 2.0T is "oh my gosh"-inducing. Add in the good gas mileage and thoughtful interior features and youd have no reason to spend more money on an A4, 3-Series or C-Class unless the badge on the nose was important to you.

  • Major Ride - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Normally get rid of a car that Ive purchased after 2 years. This one is a keeper. Fun factor over rides the fixes it has needed that were covered under warranty. Headlamps that bend were replaced, & auto 6 speed was flashed. Well optioned sedan that is almost the size of an A6. Only thing missing is cabin adjustable suspension. Kudos to VW. Rides super and will put a smile on my face when I ask her to respond. Picking up second Passat in two days - an 08 Lux Wagon 2.0T (chain driven) that is also optioned very nicely. Replacing our 03 Allroad. Really - No baloney/just lean venison and buffalo :-)

  • Love It, but Want More! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Its a good thing VW redesigned the Passat, because the new design is great, but not perfect. Auto-off bi-HID headlights, full-power (memory) seats, and auto-dimming mirror should be standard in a car in this price range (regardless of trim level). That being said, the rest of the features that this faux-demure sedan offers is great. The 2.0T engine offers plenty of power and the aftermarket is rife with upgrades to extract even more grins. That power is balanced with a luxurious feel that is often reserved for the Lexus and Benz-class owners. This car is a real contender against the Maxima, and some other low-end luxury vehicles. If you buy one, read the owners manual to find even more novelties.
