Overview & Reviews
VW's stability control system (ESP), which includes BrakeAssist, is now optional on the 1.8T model and standard on the VR6. A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, shift knob and hand brake are standard on both. Minor changes include increased padding for the head curtain airbags, backlighting for the buttons on the standard-issue stereo head unit, pinch protection for the sunroof's tilt function and upgraded wipers. Silverstone Gray replaces Matchstick Red on the exterior color list. Finally, it turns out that last year's special-edition 337 model was indeed special -- it's history for 2003.
- Fun to drive, reasonably priced, lots of standard goodies, premium cabin materials, utility of hatchback design, available six-speed manual.
- Not really suited for at-the-limit driving, dated styling.

Such A Shame - 2003 Volkswagen GTI
By Miami Guy - November 24 - 2:00 amOwning this car is like a relationship with a hot, sexy, person who has a severe chronic disease with many symptoms which can appear at any time for any reason. The car has had the ENTIRE ENGINE replaced at 34k miles because of a problem with an oil leak. Before that transplant I had replaced the clutch at 18K, all the power windows have broken. I have a little pile of plastic peices that have fallen off the ashtrays, seats, and interior which I cant figure out where theyre coming from but they all have the VW logo. Gunther Volkswagon is the best, like nurses in the cancer ward, they are very sypathetic and understanding. This car is Junk..

Rattles ruin almost perfect review - 2003 Volkswagen GTI
By Chunk - August 21 - 10:00 amTurob GTI makes this car one peppy ride. Handles like a charm, I have felt nothing like it except my friends BMW M3. Plenty of head room for a tall guy like me (64").

A car you can live with. - 2003 Volkswagen GTI
By muffinman - April 19 - 2:00 amIt does everything a sports car should. The complete package!!! The bonus is the comfort, and storage. Although not the fastest or best handling its plenty quick and takes exit ramps at three time the recomended speed. Plus I have, rainsensing whipers, climate control, sunroof-leather seats a computer which calculates MPG, speed sensing 200 watt stereo, heated seats and a big old six cylinder with a 6 speed tranny.

Great Zip for the Dough - 2003 Volkswagen GTI
By BR26354 - February 18 - 2:00 amThis is an awesome car for money! It such a hoot to drive. Plus, there is ample aftermarket opportunity to tune this machine for not alot of green. Not that you need to do much more. Maybe a chip ugrade for more power and suspension to reduce the body roll a litte more. I am very pleased with #2780.
