This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
Cons:
  • Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

  • Really Awesome Vehicle - 2004 Toyota RAV4

I am extremely impressed with the Rav4s ability to hug the road in snow and ice conditions. If there was anything I could suggest to add, it would be an upgrade on creature comforts like climate control, heated seats and possibly a leather interior option. Handles great, plenty of pep and good fuel economy.

  • Well see - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Had a 96 Grand Cherokee but got sick of all the problems. I wanted to get a new car with: price tag at or below $20K, 4WD, extremely reliable, able to fit large cargo when needed, mostly a commuter car for work....only found 2 that met criteria...RAV4 & CRV. Didnt test drive CRV because to me it just looks tin-canny, and the wheels look too small to be stable. Advice to you would be to drive both and see. If youre looking for a family car, check out the Highlander ($5K more than RAV4). I bought a RAV4 and now have 1000 miles on it.

  • Best Little SUV in Texas - 2004 Toyota RAV4
    By -

I have driven my RAV4 L all over Texas and have taken two trips out to Las Vegas from Houston and I enjoyed every mile. The little Rav was more than I expected and the 30mpg was great. It handled the hills in New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada with ease. Even in the southwest wend it held its ground. In Northern Arizona I encountered snow and it did very well. The only problem Ive ever had is with the rear wheel cover in a car wash that has automated brushes. The brushes tend to pull the cover off so I started using the type of car wash that doesn’t have spinning brushes and now the rear wheel cover is not a problem any more.

Ive only had my Rav for a short time, but I love this vehicle. Its got the Toyota reliability going for it, plus its just cute as a button! My first vehicle that I was able to choose all by myself!

  • Better value than CR-V LX - 2004 Toyota RAV4
    By -

This year should be big for RAV4 though toyota doesnt put more effort to advertise the fact that by using a 2.4 vvt-i engine with VSC, trac ctrl and disc brakes for 4 wheels, ABS on standard list, RAV4 packs a better value comparing the once class-leader CR-V, esp., at the entery-level trims. Except for the sometimes buzzy engine and high-rev transmission under harder accelerations, I dont have any thing to complain on my mid-january cross country driving from Massachusetts to San Franscisco. If you dont care extra several cubic feets cargo or backseat room, RAV4 offers much better safety features over CR-V LX.

This SUV goes very excellent in the rain and the snow. NO problems at all with this vehicle.

  • trusty rav - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Great handling for an suv not at all like a truck plus on freeway trips gets 30 mpg. Love the hood scoop on the S model even though husband says its non functional so far 3 years 33000 mile no problems whatsoever then again its a Toyota. Also test drove a Honda CR-V which had more room but at the time the Rav had better safety features like standard ABS, Traction & Stability Control that was not even available on the Honda.

  • Very Nimble - 2004 Toyota RAV4
    By -

I traded in a 96 BMW 318is and love the RAV 4. It is very nimble and responsive, Has enough get up and go for city driving, and is more fun to drive than I thought it would be. Not a luxury car or as solid as a BMW, but it is a great vehicle for the money. It is so easy and comfortable to drive.

  • still Loving my Yota after 2 years - 2004 Toyota RAV4

The Toyota Rav 4 is a fun, stylish SUV that is perfect for a college student or even a mother of three. The exceptional gas mileage and fun interior are its two main selling points. I extremely recommend the "L" package that is available. Overall, I have enjoyed my Rav 4 more than I thought I would.
