Overview & Reviews
Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.
- Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
- Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

toyota Rav4 - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By IOwnARav4 - December 20 - 2:00 amOverall, the rav4 is priced nicely for what it delivers. Although the engine is not powerful, I took it off-road and it handled well and was very impressed.

Better value than CR-V LX - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By hemoyt - December 31 - 2:00 amThis year should be big for RAV4 though toyota doesnt put more effort to advertise the fact that by using a 2.4 vvt-i engine with VSC, trac ctrl and disc brakes for 4 wheels, ABS on standard list, RAV4 packs a better value comparing the once class-leader CR-V, esp., at the entery-level trims. Except for the sometimes buzzy engine and high-rev transmission under harder accelerations, I dont have any thing to complain on my mid-january cross country driving from Massachusetts to San Franscisco. If you dont care extra several cubic feets cargo or backseat room, RAV4 offers much better safety features over CR-V LX.

My dream SUV...almost - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By krimsin - September 24 - 10:33 pmI have wanted the Sport ed. since I first laid eyes on it. It is almost perfect for our family if it was just a bit bigger in the back it would be perfect. I can haul my husband, dog (in crate), newborn son (and all his stuff), and still have room for a bag of clothes for me.

A great, fun car. But it does ratttle! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Cchap - October 19 - 2:00 amLove the look, performance, feel, and gas mileage of the car. Very fun to drive (and Im coming from a recent model BMW). Only criticism is what others have mentioned: mysterious rattles that can be very annoying. Otherwise it is a great car.

A truly unique vehicle!!! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By victor - February 15 - 8:46 amWhy did I purchase this vehicle?? SIZE SIZE SIZE. With all the SUV makers trying make their SUVs larger and larger, the RAV4 is a truly refreshing choice in a dying breed. Its ultra- compact exterior size enables me to park in the TINIEST of places. Its unbelievably fabulous turning radius makes U-turns a breeze, and its teeny exterior dimensions make driving on the super-crowded streets of LA a virtually stress-free experience. Its got decent power, is pretty comfy with very good handling for an SUV, and gives reasonable fuel economy (actual calc.21-23mpg city & 26-27hwy avg)

RAVEN - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By RAVEN03 - January 24 - 10:00 amVery comfortable and easy to drive and maneuver, however poor pick up due to low horespower. As well, can only get same color side stripe with the L pack. The RAV 4 looks better with the stripe the same color as truck...would sell better if had that option outside of L Pack.
