Overview & Reviews
Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.
- Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
- Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

My 04 RAV rocks! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Brittik - September 13 - 10:00 amThis is the second RAV4 Ive owned; the first was an 01. I have had nothing but good experiences with both cars. The first had 40,000 miles on it when I traded it - all without any major mechanical issues or problems with build quality. I think the RAV4 is the best-looking mini-SUV on the market, and the 04 model offered such significant improvements in power, handling, ride and interior sound deadening, I had to trade up.

Good vehicle to own. - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By larry leslie - June 26 - 10:00 amso far Im very pleased with the performance of this vehicle. Before I purchased it I compared vehicle prices and design, fuel milage, Engine power and handling in somewhat adverse weather conditions such as strong winds and snow covered roads. I was also pleased with the smooth ride. I looked at and test drove 4 other makes and models of SUVs before buying this one.

Happy RAV4 owner - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By keen43506 - June 14 - 10:00 amIve had my 2004 RAV4 for about 2 months and have 1100 miles on it. It is well built like my prior toyotas and I have not yet found even one defect. Gas mileage is about 24 mpg in mix of in town and short trips, havent been on a longer trip yet to test highway mileage rating. I have the L package which adds some real style to the base RAV4. Seats are comfortable and interior room is greater than it first appears. Solid feel and handling.

RAV 4 FOR ME - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Dennis McGrath - May 18 - 2:00 amwhen my wife and I purchased our Rav back in Novemebr we had heard how much others like their RAV. At a reasonable price the dealer gave us, we drove a way with our new SUV...and havent looked back. We love our car; with a nice design, quiet ride, attractive interior, and decent gas mileage, we love our new ride.

Excellent small SUV!! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Mike B. - May 14 - 10:00 amThis SUV is one of the few that I have driven that is fun to drive - it drives more like a car than an SUV. The handling is amazing. Im averaging 25mpg right now. It also provides a perfect unobstructed view of the road ahead. If your looking for a small SUV you owe it to yourself to test drive this vehicle - it may surprise you - the more powerful engine this year makes a huge difference. With the seats folded up I can fit 2 mountain bikes inside!!

Lousy Gas Mileage/No pick up - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Gdcsb - April 28 - 10:33 amThis is the worst car I ever owned. I am lucky to get 17mpg around town and 22mpg on hwy. For a small car, light car it has no guts. It is reliable and has a nice look; however, it really stinks. I just traded mine in for a Saturn SUV.

Love This Car - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Toyota Lover - April 12 - 10:46 amI love love love my RAV4. I got this SUV because I was looking for reliability after having trouble with two prior cars by a different maker. And boy did I get what I paid for. This car is great. It drives great. Havent had any problems. I can fit a lot in the back w/o the seats. Back seat passengers are relatively comfortable. Maneuvers well.
