Overview & Reviews
Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.
- Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
- Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

rav4 L - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Noelle Lawrence - October 29 - 2:00 amTerrific in snow and bad weather. Great get up and go. Lots of storage space. I like the rubber coating on the back of the seats, protects from dirty little feet.

From CRV to RAV4 and no regrets - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By DenverSLP - September 22 - 2:00 amI traded my 2003 CRV to a 2004 RAV4 for the simple reason that the RAV4 handles a tenfold better than the CRV. I found my CRV to be "trucky", FAR too big for a "compact SUV" and had terrible road noise. I would have ranked CRVs seating comfort a 2 for me...the worthless armrests dug into my sides; the legroom in the front was shy of sufficient for me (at 61). RAV4 changed ALL of that...Im glad I got one!!

Im gonna RAVE about my new RAV!!! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Bella0724 - June 29 - 2:00 amI have only been driving my new RAV for a short time, but I am already impressed by its power, roomy interior, and thoughtful cabin design. I zip around town and on the freeways, all with little interior noise. The car has great pickup...much more than youd expect for a 4 cylinder. Its so much fun to drive and kind to your wallet at the gas station.

Fun Car but it rattles! - 2004 Toyota RAV4
By Cran - May 11 - 2:00 amThis is my first SUV and I love it! It is tight on the road not matter what the weather and is just plain fun to drive. However, since Day 1 there is a constant rattle coming from the front. The dealer remove the front end - could find nothing loose and sprayed the entire area with foam. This took care of the problem but it came back after 2 weeks! Unfortunately I will have to make the time to bring it in again and I only have 1000 miles on the car! The service manager said this was the 2nd RAV4 with a mysterious rattle.
