This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
Cons:
  • Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

So far its been a great vehicle, very economical, Usual Toyota fit and finish. I only wish that we didnt have a distributor here in the SouthEast region it was very hard to find the option or color combination we were looking for unless it was installed by this so called distributor which to me sounds like aftermarket. We had to be careful about the options like the remote entry on some vehicles were marked TDS which at first glance looks like a factory option but it isnt, it seems like it should be illegal to market these options unless the customers are told.

Why did I purchase this vehicle?? SIZE SIZE SIZE. With all the SUV makers trying make their SUVs larger and larger, the RAV4 is a truly refreshing choice in a dying breed. Its ultra- compact exterior size enables me to park in the TINIEST of places. Its unbelievably fabulous turning radius makes U-turns a breeze, and its teeny exterior dimensions make driving on the super-crowded streets of LA a virtually stress-free experience. Its got decent power, is pretty comfy with very good handling for an SUV, and gives reasonable fuel economy (actual calc.21-23mpg city & 26-27hwy avg)

I recently purchased the RAV4 L. Its fully loaded and I am enjoying every little bit of it.I love it! Its so easy to drive and it feels powerful. Even with the AC cranked up it has great pick up. So far I drove over curbs and through major floods due to heavy downpours with no problems whatsoever. The 4WD is awesome. I cant wait until winter.

Very comfortable and easy to drive and maneuver, however poor pick up due to low horespower. As well, can only get same color side stripe with the L pack. The RAV 4 looks better with the stripe the same color as truck...would sell better if had that option outside of L Pack.

  • I love my Rav4! - 2004 Toyota RAV4

I own a 2004 Rav4 L AWD in pearl white. I test drove the Tribute, Escape, CRV as well as the Rav4 and the Rav 4 was my favorite. It handles well in all types of weather and is pretty economical on gas for an suv. I have driven it up to about 90 mph and it still feels sturdy but once you go above 70 mph, the wind noise becomes more pronounced. Acceleration is much better than previous years, it is smooth and gets the job done. Braking is EXCELLENT! The interior may seem small but my 60 boyfriend fits with no problem. Initially, he thought Rav would be too small and wanted me to get something else, now he tries to drive it as often as I will let him.

  • My Favorite SUV (car) - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Two of my neighbors had a Rav4. I asked them how they liked it. My husband and I went to the Daytona Toyota "just to look". A very friendly and helpful salesman greeted us. When we walked over to the pretty green gray Rav4 my husband said he knew that was the the SUV for me. I feel very confidents driving it as it handles real well. Everything on the inside is very convenient. The back opens to hold alot of groceries or whatever. I can say there is no other car on the road that I would rather be driving. Even the back seat is comfortable for adults or children. The gas mileage is great and that is important to me. Thank you Toyota for building such a great SUV.
