This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota has given the RAV4 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Notable improvements include a larger 161-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, a mild restyling that gives it a more aggressive appearance, and inside, a new steering wheel and instrument panel. Standard equipment has increased significantly, with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo heading up the list. Multistage front airbags are also new this year, and side airbags for front occupants and full-length head curtain airbags are now optional.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, refined engine.
Cons:
  • Somewhat cramped interior, high repair costs in low-speed rear collisions.

  • Great Cute-Ute - 2004 Toyota RAV4

This is a great small ute veh. In general this veh is very fun to drive. Even more so in the winter snow. It has good ground clearance and has a smooth ride with smooth shifts. With the optional 6 airbags , ABS , Traction control , VSC and Side impact beams you feal very safe. It has a great turning radius and for a 4 cylinder has great pickup and go. In very low speeds (aprox 1 to 10 MPH) the transmition could be a little smoother (has trouble finding the gear you need) but once your acclerating normally your fine. In general this veh is built solid and if you treat it right by not beating on it, changing the oil and keeping up the maintaince it will last you well over 200k miles

Good handling, milege, breaks. Vehicle stability control and traction control terrific for this class vehicle. Wold prefer a six, not because it does not have enough pep but because it wouldnt have to work as hard. Interior is a little tight. If room in back is paramont, you can probably make a better choice.

  • RAV4 gets rave review - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Our RAV4 is everthing we expected and more. As long-time loyal Toyota customers (We still have our 1991 Corolla w/170,000 mi.) the RAV4 has met our every expectation with only one minor exception - wind noise. This vehicle is a pleasure to drive and ride in, even on long trips. Acceleration is very good with the more powerful 2004 engine. And design -- We have had a few second glances from young and adult alike. We plan to keep ours a long, long time.

Hondas and Toyotas are the best car for the money. If anybody tells you otherwise ask for the unbias proof. Toyota, Im taking a guess, would be better at making trucks simply because theyve been doing it longer - trial, error, improvement. I have no complaints. PS only get the 4wd if you really need it - you pay for it in gas.

  • Best SUV for the money - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Toyota packed so much into this little SUV. Being based on a car platform, it has a fantastic ride, and handles more like a car than an SUV. The new 2.4L engine is a blast and still the fuel economy is great, considering that this thing has AWD - Ive averaged 27 mpg. The new audio controls on the steering are great, and I like the 6 cd sound system with 8 speakers. The refreshed styling makes it look even better, and I love the new wheels. 4 wheel discs are now standard, and much more confidence inspiring. This car is perfect. Has AWD, with great fuel economy, offers Vehicle Skid Control and traction control, and great braking too.

  • Love my RAV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2004 Toyota RAV4

I love this car everybody!!! I got a 95 civic when it was new and this is a welcome change. Its pretty friendly at the gas pump...Ive been averaging 28-30 MPG! Its pep and style just mkae it so much fun to drive! The interior is very simple, sporty and user friendly. Its great for hauling stuff too. While you cannot fit everything in a RAV, its great for trips to the supermarket and home improvement stores. This car is perfect for me and my family. We can fit 4 people reasonably comfortably and we dont find the interior driving noise to be bad at all. I highly reccommend this mini ute!

I bought this automobile 9 months ago, and since that time I have enjoyed driving it. Ive had no type problem with it. Ive been back to the dealer two times, for oil change, lub. and tire rotation. The only problem I have is with the wife wanting to drive the Rava instead of the Buick.

  • The best of the small SUVs - 2004 Toyota RAV4

Sold my Pathfinder and got the 2004 Rav4 and love it. The full time AWD is a big plus over having to shift in and out. Much better mpg than a 6 cylinder SUV, 10-16 mpg vs. 21-28. Lots of safety features standard. Basically a great suv for anyone who doesnt go heavy offroading and needs AWD for winters and some off the road driving. the build quality is awesome, it feels so well built, much better than some much more expensive vehicles I have been in.

I love this vehicle. I looked for 3 years and was told there is no such thing as a "perfect" vehicle for you. I was just about to settle when I saw the re-designed Rav4. I love this vehcle (oh, I said that already). Anyway, it is Blue Specra, Roof-rack, sports-scoop, and sunroof. It is a joy to drive and to own.

drove my 04 rav to reno, nevada 2 weeks ago with my family. I thought it will have a hard time climbing , I was completely wrong, the RAV 4 was very strong, handling was superb, brakes were outstanding, you couldnt ask for more. The S package was perfect for the snow, huge interior space for the kids.My wife and my kids love it so I know I got myself an all around vehicle.
