This Year's Model Updates:

The RAV4 SUV remains largely unchanged for 2000. A new cupholder design and the extinction of the two-door RAV4 convertible are the big news for '00.

Pros:
  • Swift handling, comfortable front bucket seats, Toyota durability and quality.
Cons:
  • Pricey options, so-so acceleration, not much legroom for rear passengers.

  • PERFECT CAR FOR A CHICK - 2000 Toyota RAV4
    By -

this is my mothers car, but i tend to drive this a lot in the winter when it snows. it handles very well in the snow much to my suprise. i feel very safe with the control and traction i get from the 4 wheel drive. trunk space is excellent...i fit a lot of stuff in the back that i thought would never fit. Needs more interior leg room.I tend to be cramped up especially when theres people in the back seat (im 61"). There is also a lot of wind noise, cheap dash. I kinda feel funny driving it because its not really my style...This car is definitely a "chick car" but it get does the job done

I am very disappointment with the Rav 4. I wanted a SUV, but the prices were out of my range. I thought the price of this SUV was great. However, I feel that it really doesnt qualify as a SUV. Its VERY small-no cargo room at all. In addition, its a 4 cylinder so its a dog on hills. I dont need something super fast, but I dont want to have to punch the gas pedal to the floor to climb a hill. Also, the cruise wasnt smooth. Im going to trade it in for a 4Runner.

  • Great but no power - 2000 Toyota RAV4

Great Toyota reliability, excellent build quality. A bit under powered, but OK for daily commute. Great gas mileage.

  • Toyota RAV4 L - 2000 Toyota RAV4

An overall wonderful small SUV. The build quality is rock solid. My experience with reliability has been excellent, I have never owned a vehicle so reliable. The engine and transmission work wonderfully, and the engine is suprisingly powerful for a 2.0 L.

  • 2000 RAV4 Needed Some Tweaking - 2000 Toyota RAV4

Overall, this is a very good suv. But, when I bought it brand new, the drivers side mirror was distorted and had to be replaced. The gas gauge never accurately revealed the full capacity or empty capacity, even after warranty repair. The cruise control shows problems of racing rpms and engages in a jerking acceleration without warning. And as others mention, it lacks good starting acceleration. And, I couldnt believe that I had to replace the emblems for rusting

  • Small, but Big and Peppy Rav4 - 2000 Toyota RAV4

I have had my RAV 4 for 4 years, and it has NEVER needed any service(other than typical maintance and has been one of the most reliable cars I have owned. It is comfortable, other than the small back seat(not too great for adults),and has alot of cargo room. It also has alot of pep(I have a 5 speed), as much as any sports car I have owned in the past. Great car!!!!

  • Still Great After All These Years - 2000 Toyota RAV4

I bought this RAV just about 5 years ago and have yet to experience one mechanical problem. Exterior is solid and interior has also held up well. Gets decent gas mileage for a little SUV (both city and highway) and I have taken it on long road trips without a problem. Lacks power on mountainous roads and hills, though and I have had it floored to keep up with the Speed Limit in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great quality overall!

  • Great SUV!!! - 2000 Toyota RAV4

Just bought my 2000 Toyota Rav4 (I know it is a little old) it had 87,000 miles on it when I bought it and wanted something that is good on gas and I could carry my kids in (truck was a gas gussler). This little car so far has given me no trouble. I hit a deer driving down the interstate the other night and dented up the front quarter panel and tore off a piece of the back bumper. Much to my suprise the little guy took it like a champ no mechanical issues and didnt really mess it up all that bad. Meeting with the Inurance guy on Monday to see about getting her fixed up. Like I said the only thing bad that happedned was some minor cosmetic issues. This little guy is a mini Sherman Tank lol.

  • After 2 1/2 years but only 14000 miles.. - 2000 Toyota RAV4
    By -

It is very sporty and handles like a sports car. After 2 1/2 years, but only 14000 miles, I know why we drive the 98 Expedition everywhere. The ride is not very comfortable, and on the open highway, the kids in the back seat were scared for the first month because they felt like they were riding in the back of an old pickup. It is loud and has lots of wheel and highway noise. Also, there are 3 loud and irritating trim or structural rattles and noises that are relentless in all driving conditions. It is great for around town, but after 2 1/2 years, its not for me.
