I havent had this much fun driving a car since my old VW van (just an old hippie at heart). I have the 5-speed manual and really like the placement of the stick. It has been fun teaching my 15-year old how to drive a stick - so far the Matrix is taking the abuse and my kid is starting to understand how much fun a car can be to drive. Thanks Toyota for such a fun yet versatile car!

  • A Fun Car to Drive, Easy to own. - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I have had a very good experiance overall with this vehicle. The service has been easy and Toyota has been very helpful....now as for the car itself. This car makes the drive to work fun. You can haul just about anything in it because all the seats fold down and there is a huge cargo space in the back.....its surprising how much space there is. Perfect car for a chic in her 20s....space to haul, space for friends, awesome sound system just enough power to put some guys in their place. :^) Im 21 and I can afford this car, it looks good for work, works great for play. I think the value of this car vs. the price comes out to equal a great buy!!

  • Just a great value vehicle - 2003 Toyota Matrix

We bought our 2003 Matrix used in 2005. It had just over 20K km on the clock. It now has 260K. It has really been trouble free motoring - replaced 2 wheel bearings otherwise only routine maintenance. It has maintained a very adequate fuel economy. We love this vehicle so much that we are buying a 2013 model with as close as possible the features of our present one. Everything still works fine.

  • My Trix What a car! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The car looks and drives great! Gas is no subject to my matrix~! The car is all around perfect!~ 2 probs.. a little difficult to get used to looking out the back of the car.. and once in a while in the winter you may get a egg smell from the tailpipe from the over oxygenized gas in the colder weather.. that is due to all the envirmental protection devices in the car.. its a zippy great looking car. I have gotten tooooooo many compliements on it!

  • Worth The Money - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Although this is NOT a sports car, it is fairly peppy when prodded. The 4 spd autobox is smooth and gearing seems to work well with the 130hp engine. Frequently find myself going 10-15 mph over the speed limit, the sensation of speed is more like and SUV! Very versatile interior design, with plenty of room for 4 big adults. The ride is exceptional for a car this of size, and it is very quiet at cruising speed. The gas mileage so far is exceptional. Build quality, despite a few comments Ive read here is quite good. Maybe a year of production has helped iron out the glitches.

I bought my car with 85,000 miles on it from the dealership almost 3 years ago. It now has 116,000-17,000 miles on it and i havent had any issues yet. I keep up with all maintenance. She has never let me down yet, and I have a lot of future plans for her.

  • A small car that fits me. - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Being 6’4” tall, my first requirement for any car is whether I fit or not. It is a pleasure not having to recline the front seat so my head doesn’t scrape against the roof. Even with the seat upright I have at least 2” of headroom above me. I find the engine has plenty of get up and go. Sure I (and probably everyone else) would want to have the higher horsepower engine but it just didn’t fit in the budget. I did opt for the wheel and stereo upgrade and haven’t regretted it. I love the way the car looks, feels and drives. I hate white cars so I got the dark blue.

  • Great for my needs - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The Matrix, for me, is a wonderful replacement for a 2002 Corolla I had. Long story short, I disliked the Corolla but found the Matrix had a lot of features I always wanted. Gas mileage is decent, only trade-off from the Corolla. With the Matrix I can lie down in the back--great camping car. My bike fits, too. Those complaining about the lack of power, etc., may have expectations too high for a 4 cylinder-- buy a six or eight and pay the difference in gas costs. The four cylinder, which maneuvers just fine at 70-75 mph, is ideal for the many different types of driving I do.

  • Good car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Good car. Had to trade in a new Mustang for a family car. Looks sporty and has plenty of room all around. Miss the horsepower, but it is reliable and safe. Great visability and easy to drive.

  • Fun to Drive/Great MPG - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The Matrix XR 5-Speed is a wonderful car: fun to drive, excellent gas mileage (35 mpg average so far), comfortable, lots of storage.
