I had a Nissan Pathfinder for 16 years and I was terrified of buying a new car when I had such success in the past. This is the perfect car for someone who needs cargo space, AWD and decent gas mileage. I have been absolutely pleased with it from driving around town to long road trips.

  • Great car but needs bigger engine - 2005 Toyota Matrix

Its best on the highway. Handles great. Super gas mileage. it made LA to Vegas with less than 9 gals doing 85 to 95. It carries tons of stuff with the back seats down. I chose the xr instead of the XRS because the extra 50 hp comes on after 6000 rpm and most of my driving is under that. The XRS engine is is great if you want to race or been drinking. I do nether. Ive had an Integra GSR and that car had a very similar power band. If they put the lexus Is300 engine and transmission, it would be really hot.

  • Great car for the money - 2005 Toyota Matrix

I love this car. It drives so well. I had a small SUV, and it was difficult to drive. So all the storage capabilities of the SUV are in this Matrix, and yet it drives like a car and the gas mileage is like a car. All that see it are very impressed with the style. Its also a fun car to drive.

I really like this car. I did a good bit of research. I was told to get a more expensive car but there was something about a matrix. First of all it looks great very stylish. Wonderful turning radius. I really like the fact that you are higher than those sedans. It has a great radio even the basic model. I like the chrome. The fact is this is really a mini SUV. For people who want a little more space but are environmentally conscious this is for them. Some people call this a student car. I call it a car with a lot of value.

  • Traded Lower for a Pleasant Surprise - 2005 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Traded in a top of the line 2001 Honda CRV because I wanted a vehicle that got better mileage, cost less, and was a bit smaller. Got all that with the Matrix and more. It is quieter, shifts more smoothly, and has a peppier engine than my old CRV (by the way, I had no trouble with my CRV - liked it but wanted to trade for reasons listed above). My ONLY problems with it so far (have owned it for only a few weeks) are that I find it disconcerting that I cant see much of the front of the vehicle while sitting in drivers seat - hard to judge how much is in front of me (I expect this "feeling" will go away with time.) So far, Im getting MUCH less gas mileage than what is advertised.

  • Chose Matrix over Mazda 3 Hatchback - 2005 Toyota Matrix

I spent a lot of time investigating and researching for my next vehicle to replace a 2001 Ford Escape. Had it down to the Matrix or the Mazda 3 Hatchback. I test drove the Mazda, it was nice although couldnt really tell that it had more power than the Matrix. Bought the Matrix because we had a 2004 Corolla that has been great and the price was over a $1000 less than Mazda. The Matrix has not disappointed. Plenty of power, even some wheelspin! Have been getting a consistent 29-30 mpg for a mix of city and highway travel. Ride is great, better than the Escape. Lots of little extras make this a super Corolla with fantastic hauling capacity.

  • I love my Matrix! - 2005 Toyota Matrix

The car is great. Its everything I need- enough cargo space to haul around my music and A/V gear. Enough passenger space to carry 5 rather large guys to a ballgame. Better than average fuel economy (I live in NYC and get about 28 city and 38+ highway). Ive had no problems with it, and I still love starting it up and driving it. Its really a perfect marriage of form, function, and is extremely well designed.

  • Matrix, a class by its own...... - 2005 Toyota Matrix

driving this one of a kind vehicle in its own class is quite intriguing with me. Besides purshasing at a reasonable price is well deserving. It should if not pass the rate of the corolla.
