  • This is our LAST Toyota - 2005 Toyota Matrix

Weve always owned Toyotas, but the flimsy interior and easily scratchable exterior have convinced me to look elsewhere. I hate the plastic in the cargo area because it cracks and breaks. Our 89 Corolla looked much better inside and out after 16 years than this hunk of cheap junk does after 3 years. Toyota should be ashamed of itself for making this crummy product. I also dislike the engine hesitation, the whistling wind from the closed front passenger window, and the way the electronic window controls broke for no discernible reason.

The car is standard shift with six forward and one reverse with low profile tires and a factory modified engine that goes to 180 horse and 8,000 rpm. It gets between 30 to 35 mpg. It is part sport car, part economy car, part SUV and is always reliable. It is a fun car to drive. Toyota did not put many of these cars on the market. There are many SRVs with AWD but this is not one. Instead it has a sports car six forward gear standard transmission.

The Matrix XRS is a thrill to drive. It red lines as 8200 rpm with a six speed manual trans. It will not fit into one category well, but does well in many; wagon, sport-wagon, mini SUV, pocket rocket sport car, midget mini van, or many other. With the more powerful engine with Yamaha heads, I still get 30 mpg no matter how hard I run it. The VVTI kicks in at about 6500 rpm and feels like a dirt bikes power band, really puts you back in the seat. A definate 10 on the fun to drive scale. A sport car with unlimited trunk space.

  • I love it! So much room to haul! - 2005 Toyota Matrix

Fold down the seats of this baby and you can haul almost anything! My dog loves this car, too. I pop the back hatch window and hes got a great perch. I also love the fact that the front passenger seat folds down into a flat desk. Great for long trips when I want to be flipping through CDs.

The drivers seat is the worst Ive ever had. No electric seats are available. No leather is available. Extremely uncomfortable. I guess I will have to rent a car when I take a vacation. The interior is cheap with plastic made to look like cow hide. I feel stiff and confined in this vehicle. Not much pick up power when trying to yield into interstate traffic. Headrests block view when backing up or changing into right lanes.

Its a fun sporty car that has plenty of room. It makes carpooling a joy. It handles corners extremely well and is a bit more zippy than the 2004 model. With the 17 inch rims and tinting its over comes its "soccer mom" association and becomes a slick sporty car!

  • Toyota Quality? - 2005 Toyota Matrix

Issues: 1)Noisey front end. Dealer says its the tires (Continentals) and wont do anything about it. 2)Needed a serpentine belt at 12,500 miles. Why? 3)You have to sit on the passenger seat to move it. 4)Auto locks will automatically relock 30 seconds after you hit the button. 5)Driver side window broke at 11,000. Took the dealer 2 trys to fix it. 6)Auto Transmission is "iffy" coming down hills. 7)Rear windshield wiper is noisey even if its new. (And a new one costs 20 bucks) 8)Spoilers are too low to the ground. Every matrix XR I have seen in parking lots have theirs broked right in front of rear wheels (they bottom out over speed bumps.)

  • I love my Matrix - 2005 Toyota Matrix

I purchased (ordered) the manual transmission - I love 5 speeds. I love my Matrix because it can carry so much. I went from a pick-up to this and I can still haul a lot of materials. I love the drive, the seats all go down and I like that the back is plastic. I dont even use the cargo net and rear cover but they are nice features. It is very comfortable and I love all the little storage places on the dash board.

  • I LOVE THIS CAR - 2005 Toyota Matrix

After a serious accident my Toyota Camry, I decided that I had to go with another Toyota. My decision was the best decision I ever made. I love this car. It is stylish yet reliable. It is sporty yet versatile. I am extremely happy. Good Job Toyota with the Matrix.
