Overview & Reviews
The 4Runner receives a number of upgrades this year, starting with a new and improved four-wheel-drive system equipped with a center differential and featuring a full-time 4WD mode in addition to the current two-high, four-high and four-low modes. New exterior features include a front bumper redesign, multireflector headlamps and an enhanced sport package with fender flares and a hood scoop on the SR5 model. Inside, a new center console/cupholder design will improve beverage-carrying capacity of the 4Runner and an automatic climate control system will be featured on the Limited models.
- Powerful and reliable with more luxury options than ever before.
- These things cost bucks! The new Grand Cherokee is even more rugged and still offers plenty of luxury for less money.

4 Runner Worth Every Penny! - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By TC - September 30 - 2:00 amMy 1999 4Runner was my first venture into the SUV market and it was an excellent choice. Ive put almost 77,000 miles on it with virtually no problems at all. Routine maintenance is all Ive done. Its a comfortable and reliable vehicle that is worth the price!

Great SUV ! P.S. Looking at 2003 now .. - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By ourdogmax1 - September 14 - 10:00 amThis is my 3rd Toyota, 1st 4Runner, and previously owned a 94 Toyota 4WD Pickup. I have driven it in most conditions now, excluding deep snow. The ride is quiet and vehicle handles good. The 6 disc CD changer is a must. The back seats do not fold all the way down? The back window up and down control on the dash is nice having a dog. My biggest complaint is the lack of power from the 3.4L V6, fixed in 03, and the rear seats that dont fold all the way flat. I have enjoyed this vehicle so much I am now looking at the new 2003 4Runner.

5 years and still like new - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By NYYanks23 - June 2 - 2:00 amI bought this truck new in 8/99 and have put 60k on it so far w/o so much as one problem. I change the oil every 3k and just changed the original tires and brakes. I like it so much that I bought my wife a new Z71 Tahoe just so I could get it for my everyday ride! The Z71 is a great truck but just does not have the fit and finish of the yoda. This thing seems that it will run forever and I have no plans to get rid of it. It was worth every dime.

Excellent Vehicle - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Vegas4Runner - April 26 - 2:00 amAwesome SUV. I am amazed with the driveability & handling. What makes it so impressive is that you can drive it as if it was sedan - smooth, quiet, and comfortable OR like a truck - torque and 4WD, when you need it. The only negative is the gas mileage. I have found that if I drive it light and smooth, I am able to get about 260 miles/tank. However, if I drive it heavier, Ill be lucky to get 210 miles out of a full tank. Lets just say that the 4runner has taught me to become a more patient & relaxed driver, which is a good thing I suppose. Additionally, although I havent tried towing anything yet, I feel that the power is quite plentiful.

Great Vehicle - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Gregory J Strzelecki - April 3 - 11:10 pmI love this vehicle. I have owned it for 8 years. I bought it used with 90,000 miles. Other then oil changes this vehicle is maintenance free. Now I have 230,000 miles and I have had to change somethings. Like rack and pinion bushings, shocks and struts, sway bar bushings, breaks. The most expensive part that needed to be changed was the fly wheel but that was over 5 years ago. the 4 wheel drive options are great i never get stuck in the mud or snow. I think I will be driving this vehicle for several more years to come. There is a 500000 mile club for 4 Runners. that is Amazing. By Gregory J Strzelecki

Dependable SUV - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Chris - February 12 - 5:00 amPurchased my 99 4-Runner new and have over 265k miles. Twice I have taken it down to the timing belt and done maintenance, water-pump, etc., preventative type things. As soon as I purchase my new 2010 4-Runner I will be turning this one over to my 16 year old daughter.
