Overview & Reviews
Toyota's SUV receives minor changes. The most noticeable is the addition of the 2WD Limited to the model lineup. SR5 models receive new interior fabrics.
- Great looks and ground-pounding performance make the 4Runner an ideal choice for people who love the great outdoors as well as those who just want to look like they do.
- Steep price and choppy highway ride temper our enthusiasm for this otherwise outstanding truck.

4Runners Rule - 197K and Going - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By ToyFan1 - May 25 - 9:16 pmI purchased this vehicle new and it has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned. Ive had other brands Hondas, Chevys, Ford, GMC.... and nothing compares to Toyota quality and reliability (not even my Honda Accord). The only maintenance has been oil changes, tires, timing belt per owners manual and brakes (probably weakest feature - upgraded to Tundra front discs last year). I would buy another 4Runner, but this one still has years of reliable service left.

Superb Machine - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By JRV - February 15 - 10:00 amThis is uncompromised quality at its best. Yes, a bit costly given the fact its a 4 x 4, however it drives and rides very well. We purchaced it new in the Caribbean and keep it when we moved back to the States. Its been everywhere, but never in the shop for repairs. Wow! Look, I traded a 97 525i BMW that did nothing but swallow green 100 dollar bills ever since was purchased new. German craft is crapppp!

LOVE it !! - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Romer - December 26 - 7:53 amI bought my SR5 4WD 4Runner new in 97. 8 years and 88K miles later, only the antenna has stopped working. I have done all of the scheduled maintenance on time and 8 years later, I am averaging 20 MPG. The ride is fair for a truck based SUV. The power is also fair but not enough when I was towing my boat. Would not trade it for any other SUV.

1997 Toyota 4 Runner - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Toyota - July 19 - 10:00 amI am the original owner and I am extremely pleased with my 4Runner and now have 101,000 miles on it. I do have regular maintenance performed and change the oil every 3,000 miles. The only things have had replaced are the starter, antana two times and the front cup holder in the seven years that I have owned my Toyota.

Awesome SUV - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Joe - January 8 - 10:00 amI bought this SUV new in Sept. 1997 and it now has 150,000 miles and it is still running strong. Wife wants me to buy a new truck and I would get another 4Runner, but I am not ready to give up this truck. They just dont build them like this anymore. Quality for all manufacturers is just not the same as it was in the 90s. 13 years old and is as dependable as the newer cars in our family. I may give this truck to my daughter in a couple of years when she starts to drive and needs a car.

Toyota - Need I say more? - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Wild_Bill - January 2 - 10:00 amIt just doesnt get any better than this. If youre shopping for a used one you definitely want to look for a rear locker if plan on off-roading.
