Overview & Reviews
Toyota's SUV receives minor changes. The most noticeable is the addition of the 2WD Limited to the model lineup. SR5 models receive new interior fabrics.
- Great looks and ground-pounding performance make the 4Runner an ideal choice for people who love the great outdoors as well as those who just want to look like they do.
- Steep price and choppy highway ride temper our enthusiasm for this otherwise outstanding truck.

Get excited everytime I drive it!! - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Excited everytime!! - November 8 - 4:40 pmI just bought this 4runner 2.7L/4 cylinder/manual/rear diff lock four months ago, since I bought this 4runner I never had problems, I just changed brake caliper/changed oil and adjusted the rear brakes, I brought it to my mechanic after buying it and he said when he test drove it, it runs like 6 cylinder, he likes it!! It has 242800k in its engine but man it drives great!! I am planning to keep this truck til it drops. Routine check up needs to be followed and this stud will rock!!

238,000 miles and still going strong! - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By DeFoor - August 31 - 8:06 pmThis is my 2nd 4 runner. I have only replaced the water pump and timing belt. The truck still looks great inside and out. If you want reliability Toyota trucks are the way to go. I expect to get at least another 150k. I dont drive like you mamma either, these are hard miles. The 4 wheel drive is there when you need it, it will climb some steep hills. If you are worried about good dealer service- dont, you will not need it!

My Reliable Rig - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By Susan - August 12 - 10:00 amIt is so reliable. I looked in consumer reports before my purchase as it had 44,000 miles on it and was spendy at that time. The only thing I have ever had to do is change the starter at 85K and purchase tires.I have never had any mechanical problems.

Superb SUV - 1997 Toyota 4Runner
By lovemytoyotas - March 31 - 10:00 amBought used with every possible option. Just love it. Beautiful to look at; fun to drive. Very comfortable; back never gets tired. Good mileage for SUV; over 22 mpg on long hauls from sea-level to over 8000 and at 80+ mph. with a load. Only problem so far is the sectional antenna stopped working. Extremely reliable. My only complaint is that my wife confiscated it on the way home from the dealership, and claims its HER car!
