Purchased the 4Runner in Dec 02 when they first hit the local market. Thought it was a little pricy, but felt it was a good value based on other Toyota owners recommendations. It was exactly the right sized vehicle for my needs. It has good overall power and preformance from the 4.7 liter V-8.It also has an excellent, solid road feel. Steering, brakes, and handling are very good for an SUV. The only complains I have are terrible gas mileage (12.5 to 14 mpg!)and a slight vibration felt in the steering column and pedals under light acceleration. Service manager cant explain or get interested in finding the vibration. Overall a very satisfying vehicle.

This is a great vehicle. I looked at everything b4 making my decision and am convinced I made the right one. I bought the silver with grey leather. All options except navigation-dont wish I had it. I am very surprised I dont see more on the road, but not disappointed.

Seems to be a good SUV, but its a bit on the ugly side. Toyota quality with a V8 for a decent price is what sells the vehicle. If it wasnt a Toyota then it would not be worth buying.

  • Rattle Rattle Squeak Squeak - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

The sunroof rattles like it has marbles in it. The left front rubber insulator between body and frame squeaks when its cold. The lumbar motor in drivers seat went out and was $750 to replace. There was a support tapping me in the back, so it had to be fixed. It has been to dealer for the noise and is still not fixed. The seat is ok now. I am running H/T tires and handling is great. Radio still sounds great with its 10 speakers. Handles and rides well on trips, but rattles from sunroof will drive you crazy.

4Runner well built in Japan, plenty of power with V8 engine, 5,000lbs towing, scrupulously maintained, mobile 1 oil changed every 3,000 miles. Very low mileage as owner working outside of country half time since purchase. Performed very well on cross country trip. A pleasure to drive, interior in perfect condition, has nav system, am/fm. Perfect size to negotiate narrow road and trails. Any bigger vehicle loses utility. Back country vehicle of choice, beats out rangerover, hummer, etc.

  • 2003 4Runner after 6 years of ownership - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Overall Ive liked the truck. I have close to 100K miles now and have taken good care of it. It still looks like a new truck when I get it all cleaned up which I think is due to the quality of paint and components used. Ive been disappointed by the reliability. Among those things gone wrong are: AC compressor clutch relay, Heated mirrors dont work, Lights in several areas of the dash dont work, Front brake calipers froze up. Had to be replaced Transmission or rear end has a whine that Im afraid is the beginning of a big bill. Would I buy again? Maybe, but I would want to look at other trucks first. The harsh ride of the vehicle tends to make those sitting in the rear get car sick.

  • The tank - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Its been a great vehicle so far, a high performance tank. It drives great, is incredibly quiet & comfortable, looks great, handles well. My only knock is mileage. The computers consistently 1.5 - 2 mpg higher than actual mileage, & in normal commuting (some highway, some town) Im only averaging a little over 16 mpg.

  • Great Suv - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I have had my 4 runner for a month and i love it. only one problem which seems to be a growing problem on the V6 according to the dealer which is the fan makes a loud squeeling noise when its cold and then goes away once the truck is warm, no fix as of yet but toyota is working on it, atleast they are aware of the issue. Otherwise i still love it and am very happy with it.

I bought this car new in 2003 to be our family truckster. While it had a rattle here and there, it was always reliable and well-mannered on the road through 125,000 miles. Pretty early on in had an ABS problem, which was quickly fixed under warranty. No problems since. Good cargo space and lots of room for rear-passengers. I could just fit 2 kids in boosters and a grandmother in the backseat. I moved up to a BMW 5-series, and less than a month later I am considering moving back to a 4runner.

  • Great Investment - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

My AWD V8 Limited 4Runner is very stylish, powerful, and comfortable. It gets great mileage for an SUV at 19.2 mpg even with the all-wheel drive. Its my first Toyota after owning 3 Pontiacs, 1 Chevy truck, and a Dodge Ram. It is superior in quality and I feel it will be a great long term investment.
