Went down yesterday to look at the new 4Runner. A BIG improvement over the third generation. Pros: new V8 is quite peppy in 2WD form, seats are extremely comfortable, transmission shits smoothly, respectable fuel economy, extremely smooth ride, peace of mind that it will last. Cons: Wheres that 3rd row seat??? Not much space for cargo, a little noisy when sunroof is open, radio/climate ctrl. illumination not very bright at night; although instrument lights are bright. Looks like a winner to me.

Bought a 03 4runner SR5 in 2009. It had 74,000 miles on the V6. When I first got the car I was getting about 18.3 mpg which I wasnt impressed with since my dad was getting almost the same in his sequoia. Then I put a K&N filter on it. Last fill up I got 21 mpg mostly city with a little bit of highway. Awesome vehicle besides the sulfur smell that I get sometimes when stepping on the gas.

I analyze this SUV among others. My other car is really a Porsche (Boxster S). This SUV is very powerful. I drove the V6 and the V8. The V6 is powerful over 3000 rpm. The V8 is ridiculous powerful. It takes off faster than my Porsche 0-30 which means my wife is safe at every intersection. X-REAS is a MUST (period). Take your time and test the X-REAS and the non X-REAS. With the X-REAS it drives like a sport car, I am serious. The transmision is very responsive.

  • Disappointing Powertrain - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I am very disappointed with my 4runner. At 3000 miles it developed a driveline vibration when it is driven between 50 and 70 mph. Toyota head office tech reps could not fix it. Between the dealer and head office I have been given the run around for 15 months. I hope they replace the truck, if not I will have sell it soon. Buyers beware...

I previously owned a 2000 4 runner. This new car blows it away. I really liked the 2000, I love this SUV!

  • Smooth as silk - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

The good; Fast, smooth, quite and fun to drive. The bad; For $30,000+ you should get visor mirrors. Visor swing out arm doesnt block the sun well. Drink holder doesnt hold drinks real well. Driver floor mat doesnt have heal gaurd. Could use slightly better brakes. Overall; It seems to be more American than Japanese. Toyota seems to be not as concerned with the little details like they have in the past. A refined vechicle that has been stripped down of the little goodies that I so loved. Its still a great vechicle, but Im starting to think that its not the best deal around.

I have a Sport V8 4x4 Model that has the painted trim package and I replaced the white letter tires. Overall good value for $32k.

  • Love the new style - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Bought this 4Runner used with 10K on it. It is a 2003 but has the color matched fenders and body, Looks awesome. the V8 engine has tons of power and the ride is smoother then ever. I previously had a 1999 4Runner Lmtd (That I loved) and this new one puts that one to shame. Toyota has really taken a step up with this new model.
