Highway mileage varies from 28 w/ 4 studded snows to 32 with 4 summer tires. Corrugated shifter makes vehicle feel like a sports car on mountain pass roads. High ride height allows one to be on eye level of other SUVs. Stability Conttrol w/ ABS prevented me from hitting elk that jumped out on icy road in front of me: vehicle did not flip. Bought optional XM radio which souds great w/ factory sound system. Not spongy off-road: enough ground clearance. No repairs if one follows factory mtce. Have owned a 4Runner (4 cyl & V6) every 3 years since 1990 & love the electric rear window.

Not only does this vehicle pass all others, going up hill at 10,000 feet, but does so at the speed limit and then some. Then you can go off road and make all the big bumps on the 4wd roads seem smooth. no problem.! Downhill assist comes in handy for sustained downhill slow speed. Transmission very smooth and torque is strong. Brakes are even and have good feel.

  • Very Happy with my 4Runner - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I have had my 4Runner for 600 miles, and I couldnt be happier. I test drove a 2002 model last year, and what an improvement - in all areas. I stepped up from a 94 Toyota pickup, and even though it is not a "fair" to compare the two, I feel like I got a luxury car. Im happy with most everything, but especially the gas mileage, the comfort and ride. One other reviewer mentioned a clicking sound - Ive heard it too - and Im waiting for a fix from Toyota.

Great vehicle. I bought it as a dealer demo with 7500 miles on it for about $6k off sticker ($36k). Only a few minor probs, the side mirrors had a weird glare and those were replaced (free warranty), few probs with actuators (free under ext warranty - doors wouldnt lock), a/c clutch relay switch replaced (125 P&L). Blower motor may need to be replaced any day (used heavily/daily). At 105k miles had water pump and timing belt replaced -preventative maintenance only. I put about 22k miles annually on this vehicle and love it. It always starts and goes. Have taken few trips to places from Bay Area to Canada (BC), San Diego, Yosemite, Vegas, Bakersfield, Arizona. Has hauled many things. Good vehicle. 17.4 avg mpg

1 month anniversary of our 2003 4 Runner Ltd. No new car bugs. After owning Ford Explorer & Chevy Suburban - If you can get by with less cargo space, everything else about this vehicle feels like an upgrade. This is one nice comfortable truck!

have had my 4runner for a week and have loved every minute of it. i look for excuses to drive it. the only thing i worry about is someone denting it or hitting me, however i did get rear ended the second day. that high ground clearance protected my baby though. no damage to me, but a trailer hitch through the hood of the creep who wasnt paying attention. drives like a sports car. the V8 is incredible and i have still gotten 19-20 mpg city and highway. sound system rocks. my dog loves to surf the breeze when the sun roof is open and the rear window is down. i plan on keeping my 4runner for years.

Went down yesterday to look at the new 4Runner. A BIG improvement over the third generation. Pros: new V8 is quite peppy in 2WD form, seats are extremely comfortable, transmission shits smoothly, respectable fuel economy, extremely smooth ride, peace of mind that it will last. Cons: Wheres that 3rd row seat??? Not much space for cargo, a little noisy when sunroof is open, radio/climate ctrl. illumination not very bright at night; although instrument lights are bright. Looks like a winner to me.

Bought a 03 4runner SR5 in 2009. It had 74,000 miles on the V6. When I first got the car I was getting about 18.3 mpg which I wasnt impressed with since my dad was getting almost the same in his sequoia. Then I put a K&N filter on it. Last fill up I got 21 mpg mostly city with a little bit of highway. Awesome vehicle besides the sulfur smell that I get sometimes when stepping on the gas.
