  • Great SUV, but ... - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I bought 4Runner because Toyotas reputation of quality and reliability. Its a great SUV, but the quality is not is not there. The car has rattles all over sunroof/headliner after only 2K miles. The sunroof also decreases already limited headroom space. I think, Toyota should take Hondas approach - DONT DO IT IF YOU CANNOT DO IT RIGHT and droop the sunroof option. Now after a couple of trips to the dealership I am thinking Id be better of with Explorer.

In my experience I cannot say anything bad about this SUV. Very reliable, owned for close to 3 yrs. never had any problem what so ever. Good on snow. Performance wise I cannot complain it had enough power for me when passing or high speed highway driving.

This vehicle is very powerful and drives pretty nice although some extra space and comfort is needed.

  • Get the feeling - true SUV - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I have driven everything from the BMW X5 to the Honda Pilot and VW Toreag. The 4Runner was the best of the bunch for the $$$. Great ride, handeling and excellent build quality. A true SUV not like these car based suvs built for soccer moms. Got mine as a 2003 leftover for 12K less than sticker.

  • Best all-around SUV - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

This is my first 4Runner...I owned a Ford Explorer prior to this and it doesnt even compare. The handling on this truck is amazing (w/ X-REAS). I opted for the V6 due to a little better gas mileage. Go for the V8 if you plan to tow anything very large. This is the best all-around SUV in this segment and is not a glorified minivan (unlike the Honda Pilot).

  • Toyota does it again! - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

What can I say, this SUV is great! Very comfortable ride and excellent handling. The V6 has plenty of get up and go...and great gas mileage! (for an SUV) A smooth shifting automatic transmission. Excellent breaking. Quiet and well appointed interior. Test drive one, youll be happy you did!

My favorite vehicle ever, especially the redesign. Great acceleration, looks, drive, handling. Quality interior.

  • American car Gliches? - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

16 years of toyotas and they seem to be finally be leaning toward the American needs and wants. Conveinances are much better and exciting for and old truck. Nothing carries over from the old 4runner to the new exept the quality and the dependiblty. Proud to drive althought they are still dealinging with 1st year bugs they cannot fix. Yes the 6cyl engine pully and belt rattle and sqeak at warm up and the manual drivers seat will loosen its play till it throws you out of it. But these are minor fixes to the great 4runner badge.

  • Test Drive Thoroughly Before Buying - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

A extraordinarily disapointing purchase given the "Toyota quality" premium inherent in the cost. My vehicle is not up to the norm, Id not buy again. Potential buyers should test drive on all road types. Theres a problem (not in all, but lots of local reports) with intermittent overhead rattles. The moonroof weatherseal doesnt lie flat in about 1 in 4 local vehicles surveyed. (New seals arent sold, you replace with a whole new moonroof -- and gut the interior to do it -- my replacement arrived worse than the first). Bottom line: Buyer beware - search for a "good one" (they exist, but so do problems).

Although the 4Runner does have some faults, I truely enjoyed its driving experience. I find the V6 engine to be more than enough power. The power and available options are what sold me when first looking at this SUV.
