The base V6 now comes with a five-speed automatic, while the optional V8 has been upgraded to deliver 270-hp and 330 pound-feet of torque. A rollover sensor now comes with the optional head curtain airbag system. A limited-slip differential has been added to the stability control system. SR5 models now feature a chrome grille, color-keyed bumpers and black running boards, while the Sport model get a color-keyed grille. All Limiteds receive color-keyed bumpers, illuminated black running boards and a black roof rack.

By David Cruise - June 11 - 6:00 amI use an SUV for commuting, utility trailers and boat trailers. I also expect to help the local crew coach tow a 7000lb GVW shell trailer that can carry 6-8 boats at once. I had a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder that was underpowered for the job. It had a stiff ride that I liked but my family would not ride with me. This car rides great and has many standard features that you need but that you dont think to look for.

By New Owner - June 6 - 9:50 pmI researched all the SUVs in this class and the 4Runner is the BEST. The 4 Runner has around for 20+ years and people are still driving their old ones. A good thing is that most are repeat owners. The quality, price, and amenities are awesome. I love it.

Great SUV Gets Even better - 2005 Toyota 4Runner
By Tom - May 6 - 1:00 amWe had a 2000 4Runner and loved it. We lost it in an accident and went shopping again. Looked at Explorers, Trailblazers and Jeeps and Envoys. Although due to dealer incentives could have purchased all but the Envoy for less, the fit and finish, towing capacity on the base models, and overall quality in the 4Runner is tops. The interior is larger than the 2000 model and the ride is smoother without being soft and driver visability is improved. Our experience with the reliability from Toyota was the final selling point. This is our 5th and all we have ever had to replace other than standard maintenance items was a starter. We usually keep them for over 100,000 miles. Very Satisfied

By Pappas - May 1 - 7:30 pmWe leased this Toyota without doing much research and we are glad we went with a Toyota! Its an impressive vehicle on the outside and decent on the inside. We love the temp. controls and rear air. The ride is amazing!!!! It doesnt feel like we are driving a truck by any means. I have driven many different cars and SUVs and this one drives the best by far! My husband and I argue over who will take the 4 runner. The air is freezing and it has auto temp. control which we love. The seats are comfortable and the interior is roomy for an SUV in its class.

Trucky But Family - 2005 Toyota 4Runner
By BMJ - April 6 - 10:43 pmMy wife wanted a truck but not a practical purchase for a family vehicle. She liked her van so we needed something in the middle but not too big. This SUV is it, it is truck like, rides as such but that makes it fun to drive. Durable and sporty. Toyota really fine tunes this offering. If you like something with a truck feeel (and truck insurance rates!) this is a great vehicle so far.

I could not be happier with its over all quality, look and capabilities. Compared to the domestics, there is no choice, the resale and reliability more than offset those extra rebates and discounts.

Rock Solid Performer & a Keeper! - 2005 Toyota 4Runner
By RB & PB - March 30 - 2:00 amBetween my wife and I, we have owned many vehicles. If we had to pick "one" to live with from the many...this would be it. Not flashy (frame/ladder design versus newer design) - dont hear much about it in the media and the limited version is a little pricey. However, this is a safe (full compliment of airbags), reliable, go anywhere, do anything (towing, off road or a wedding), solid performer. We plan on owning this one for a long time - and we can because of reliability. We have had no issues besides routine maintenance (brakes, battery, timing belt change). Sad that Toyota no longer offers this rig w/a V8. Will have to look at the Lexus variant when its time to purchase in the future.

The ride and build quality show with inside and out. Compared to the so-called Big Three and its overseas rivals, Toyota engineers and builders continue to drive over their competion with the best built components and workmanship. Trust me, I have driven just about every SUV out there and this 2005 4Runner will get you in and out of places the others tremble to think about. The VSC and braking system add to your confidence when driving. The gas mileage stands out with my average at 24 MPG highway. The ride is quiet and smooth.

2005 SE 33000 miles of experience - 2005 Toyota 4Runner
By Ray - February 17 - 9:50 pmI have been extremely happy with the V-8s performance capability. I get about 21 MPG overall per the onboard computer using regular. However, I have seen a slight drop since ethanol has been added to the local gasoline mixture. The only problem I have had was the dealer did not lower the spare tires pressure to match the 32 lbs in the wheels on the ground. It took a while to figure this out.
