  • Decent, but its not perfect - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

The good: easy to drive around town, not bad on the road up to 300 miles or so, very sensitive to tire rotation as it is 4wd, decent rock crawling/off road capability, decent tow vehicle. The bad: windows rattle like an old Camaro when partially down, vibration at 1800 rpm, engine idles too high when cold, expensive maintenance in the future if you keep it 90-100K miles, timing belt and valve adjustment. Is this the very last vehicle to require a valve adjustment?? Window noise.

  • My car for the next 15 years - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

I love this truck. It has off-road capability, but it handles and rides on the road like a dream. I bought the sport model and the build quality and the way it feels is well worth the price. It doesnt have as much room as the others in its class, but I can still take the wife, kid and dog and tons of stuff. This is going to replace a 98 explorer. Granted the explorer is 6 years old, I didnt have the confidence for safety, quality and reliability in the Ford as I do in this Toyota. When people found out I had one, everyone had a story about the incredible reliability and its apparent in the way this car drives and feels. Tons of standard advanced features, check out toyotas site.

  • Great purchase - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

I owned an 01 Pathfinder and was very happy with the car, but it was time to trade up. After reading as many reviews and going to as many sites as possible the only logical choice was a 4Runner. Well, after nearly two months of ownership I must say that I could not be happier. The 4Runner definitely has a better overall feel than my 01 Pathfinder and the 05 Pathfinder I looked at. The fit/finish is excellent. The material quality is high. It drives very well for a SUV (quite interior). Bumps on the road are absorbed like a sponge. I purchased the V8 and it is very quick. If you are looking into purchasing an SUV in this category the 4Runner requires serious consideration.

  • Zero Remorse Factor - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Very satisfied after 500 mi in-town, 500 mi highway. All expectations met or exceeded. Get 18+ mpg city; 25 hwy. My previous car was a 91 Acura Legend Coupe and yet I dont feel any let down in handling, acceleration, comfort or quality. The 05 is MUCH nicer than the small-truckish 96-02 body style in ride, comfort, room, performance, and quality of materials. Handles all types of small and large bumps and potholes with a muted, rounded little THuB-THuP. None of the old porpoising after a high- speed bump. No XREAS (SR5) but dont regret it.

  • Expected more thought - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

My first Toyota. I bought it for the resale value, the reputation of Toyota but most of all from the off road reputation of the 4Runner. The ride is excellent the gas mileage sure beats the 15mpg I was getting in my 98 Durango. Looks great and performance is better than I expected from a V-6. The stereo is probably the biggest disappointment for a 2005 I would have thought that with all the interest in music that it would at least be as good if not better that the 98 Durango I traded for it. I have a two-speaker work van that sounds better.

  • Great value continues... - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

I am a third time owner of a 4Runner. They keep getting better. Excellent overall value, resale, MPG (V6), ride and comfort, reliability. The new 5spd automatic transmission in the 2005 is very smooth.

Real pleased after coming from a new BMW that was in shop about every month. V8 has great pickup and reasonable gas mileage. Average mileage is between 17 and 18 w regular w about 80% stop and go city driving. Long trips get me 20 mpg. BMW was avg 19 mpg on premium. Still no Honda Civic, though and with the small tank (23 gallons) there are a lot of gas stops. Good amount of interior room, great brakes and lots and lots of storage areas.

Well built. My disappointment is with the fuel economy. The range I get has never been more than 380 miles @ an average of 17-18 miles/gl. I actually get higher mileage in town than on the highway. I can sometimes get up to 20 miles/gl in town, but never more than 18 on the highway.

  • Midwestern boat owner - 2005 Toyota 4Runner

We have owned this vehicle while living in Minneapolis, MN and Memphis, TN. It performed well in both climates, but better in the south. It makes some funky noises when starting on cold Minnesota mornings. It seems fussy about the quality of gas you use, the idle is a bit rough occasionally. I assume this is from lower quality gasoline, but I dont know this for sure. We had no problem accelerating or stopping with a 2600 pound boat in tow. I recommend this for people looking at tow vehicles. I love opening all the windows and roof on nice summer days. Our sunroof just recently got stuck wide open - just in time for a snowstorm! No other maint. issues.
