  • What a good surprise! - 2000 Suzuki Esteem

Car was two years old and had 30,000 miles on it at purchase. Id read good reviews, but my expectations were low. I was just looking for a cheap little wagon to drive for a while. I tested a 1.6L, but it was underpowered. The 1.8L is way better. I liked that the 1.8L wouldnt need timing belt replacement, since it has a chain. Well, Ive been surprised by how much I love this car. Its cute, extremely peppy, and fits a ton of stuff. Its amazingly reliable. In five years, Ive put 30,000 miles on it, mostly vacation driving. Weve taken it out on the road for weeks at a time without a worry. Its been from sea level to Colorado mountain tops. Its a champ.

  • best car for the buck - 2000 Suzuki Esteem

Purchased 6/2/2000 and I will not part with it. Power is good as sea level BUT could be better in the mountains. (USE 91 OCTANE IN THE MOUNTAINS) Mileage runs about 24 street and 35 in freeways. Handles very well and is stable at all speeds and rides like a larger car.

  • bare basic car.. - 2000 Suzuki Esteem

I just bought this car a month ago with 31 k miles on it. Now it has 33k. The car was in a good condition when used. There are very few good things about this car .. it is usually average or below average. The car is very simple in design and so it is easy to work on. The build quality is bad, there are noises everywhere. A critical bolt for the engine mount snapped in the first few weeks. I think the wagon is a more practical alernative.

  • Hats of to Suzuki! - 2000 Suzuki Esteem

I had my car for a little under a month now and I still like it. The only problem that I have had with it was a flat tire at the dealership, that has nothing to do with the cars reliability, tires go flat on every vehicle out there. It is a good first time car, my first car, (when I was in 10 grade) was a 1991 GMC Jimmy 4x4 4dr. I DO NOT recomend this truck, it was sopposed to have 4x4, ABS, and electric windows, guess what, the 4x4 never locked in, the ABS didnt work (I had some close calls that would have not be close if i had ABS), and the windows would slowly go down, and not go up.

  • Not a bad little car - 2001 Suzuki Esteem

Ive owned my Esteem for 5 years and have never had any major mechanical problems with it and it handles like a champ. I like my little car and its great in city traffic and tight spots. I moved from Florida to Chicago and was curious to see how it would handle in ice and snow since it is very light and can be hard to handle in high winds. In snow/ice, it slides a lot in turns. The engine can be noisy but I always have the radio on, so its not an issue for me personally. I replaced the factory CD player because mine stopped reading CDs and my intermittent windshield wipers gave out soon after purchase and now Ive noticed that my wipers dont reset themselves when they turn off.

  • Id like it to last forever - 2001 Suzuki Esteem

My daughter bought the 2001 Suzuki Esteem Wagon in 2004 to drive between college and student teaching. It had 60,000 miles on it. When she graduated I bought it from her to drive to work with 90,000 miles. I have driven it now 5 years and it has 212,000 miles. So far there have been no major repairs required. My husband finds it uncomfortable but I dont have any problems driving it. It is low to the ground and tends to catch flying rocks on the windshield that a taller vehicle would have hit the grill. It averages 30-31 MPG highway, which is the majority of my driving. I would like cruise control. The biggest problem has been an oil leak at the head gasket and the CD doesnt work.

The guys there helped me get financing because my credit sucked at the time. i havent regretted my impulse buy AT ALL> The esteems a great little car that I have beat the s^&* out of and took on several long trips ....knock on wood Ive had no trouble with it at all. It has some speed too.

  • Good Cute car - 2001 Suzuki Esteem

For a subcompact car, this is a great one. We specifically sought a new Suzuki Esteem because it was the end of the model year, the last year of the Esteem. We figured we could strike a deal on one that a dealer wanted to move off the lot. We ended up finding a great deal on a used one, instead. We love this car, and I think of it as a little Subaru. While somewhat conservative, it stands out from others in its class. As a small 4 cylinder, I expect some noise, but once up to cruising speed, its suprisingly smooth and quiet. Extra space of the wagon makes it feel not-so-small. I reccomend it to anyone searching for cars in the category.

  • 2000 Esteem GLX Wagon - 2000 Suzuki Esteem

Since I purchased my Esteem Wagon in July of 2001, I have had one problem. About a week after I purchsed it (it had only 10k miles), the passenger seid front brake pad "de-laminated" itself from the mounting surface. The dealer covered it under warranty and not one thing has gone wrong with the car. Although it has a propensity for blowing brakelights. I have put 12K miles on the car since purchase and it has been a pleasure. Better than any US brand I have owned in the last 10 years.
