  • Another great Subaru - 2017 Subaru Outback

Opted for the Touring model, love the saddle brown interior color, exceptional comfort and easy to drive. As a handicapped person, very easy to get in and out of. Great cargo capacity and easy to load and unload.

  • Best Outback Yet! - 2017 Subaru Outback
    By -

Fourth Subaru owned since my 2000 Outback. Have had one from each generation The 2000 was a good car but underpowered. Drove it for about 85,000 miles before trading, never let me down. Had a company car for 8 years, but we bought a 2008 Outback XT Limited (turbo) for my wife to replace a disappointing GMC Envoy XUV. That 2008 XT was a fun car, lots of power and good handling. Downside was high level of highway noise and fuel economy only 20-22 mpg, maybe 26 on long highway trips. Wife drove the XT from 2007 to 2011when it got handed down to me from 2012 to 2016. From 2009 through 2012 I had a 2009 Forester fleet car for work. Way quieter but very numb handling and down on power compared to the Turbo. Not the best riding car but never left me stranded. Drove that for over 60k. The 2017 model is head and shoulders above any previous Subaru owned. The best bang for the buck is the base model at around $25,000 if you dont need all the active safety options or the six cylinder. The car is quiet, roomy, good handling, excellent in snow and ice, has adequate acceleration, and so far has been getting combined over 28 mpg on regular gas. The CVT automatic transmission makes excellent use of the 175 hp 2.5 liter engine. Six speeds with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Also has a low-speed "off road" mode and steep hill ascent mode which most people will never use, but with the good ground clearance, you might drive it to Moab and do some real off-road driving. We live in the mountains and there are 7-8 months per year where you may need AWD or even snow tires. The Subaru line has never let us down. Driven this one in about 8 inches of fresh powder and it does get a little "floaty" where my wifes Wrangler Unlimited just plows through. If you need AWD at any time where you live or drive, I believe the Subaru is the best choice for getting where you need to go safely. In addition, I worked in he insurance industry and have seen fewer injuries or fatalities in Subaru vehicles than any other brand except perhaps Volvo, Mercedes, BMW.

  • Eyesite feature great, Navigation maps outdated - 2017 Subaru Outback
    By -

Very happy with the Eyesight System & features. Navigation maps are about 3 years out of date in a new car with no updates available. I have contacted Subaru customer service several times and they dont seem to care and dont offer any prospects when an update will be available. Cannot see the clock or outside temperature display (which are poorly placed) if you are wearing polarized sunglasses. Some of the apps are a waste. I miss the calendar and calculator that was available on my 2011 Outback. They could redesign the display of the steering wheel and dash switches to make them more easily readable during the day. At a glance you do not know what some are for. At night with the red display on the buttons they are easier to identify. I dont understand why they havent changed that over the years. Other than that I am quite happy with the car but very unhappy regarding the maps. I would not have bought the navigation system knowing the maps were out of date. Frequently have to use my iPhone for directions.

Try all other SUVs . Once you drive the Outback , there is no reason to drive anything else.

  • I now this car with a few exceptions - 2017 Subaru Outback
    By -

On any Drive Beyond one hour the front seats are totally unacceptable. Leg cramps are the norm. If it were not for the cruise control offering some relief I would have to pull over and stop. I have never owned an automobile in my 60 plus years of driving that has been this unacceptable in seat comfort. My second issue are the voice commands for the navigation system. They had best can be described as a joke. They flat-out do not work. Ive been dictating into machines one type or another for 40 years I use computer dictation everyday Ive used navigation systems on all of my other automobiles and Garmins and this one does not work. The other technologies out weight the previous issue. I would buy another BUT I would hope they get their act together on the fronts seats, the voice commands etcetera.

  • Great Car With Flaws - 2017 Subaru Outback
    By -

I just hit 5k miles and and remain extremely satisfied with my purchase of a 2017 Outback. The car serves as my primary vehicle and I commute with two other adults. The spacious interior has plenty of leg room in the backseat for adults. The cabin remains quiet at freeway speeds, though there is a distinctive wind noise from both the front driver and passenger windows. When multiple people are in the car, acceleration is sluggish. I like the eyesight and lane departure safety features, but have had a few growing pains. I live around curvy roads and the audio alarm I get everytime I cross the line on a curve can get a little irritating. I believe you can silence the alarm but I prefer to keep it on as I have two teenage children that also drive the car. The eyesight braking system activated a couple of times as I closed the distance gap too quickly on a car turning right. Also, when backing up in a grass parking area, the tall grass confused the system causing the car to break suddenly. My biggest complaint is the STARLINK system. It is useless with the iPhone. Really wish the car had Apple CarPlay instead. STARLINK is the vehicles biggest flaw. While the Bluetooth system works well, not having full access to my iPhone features will likely keep me from making another Subaru purchase in the future. And while I do use the cars navigation system, its not as intuitive as Google Maps or Waze and have to rely on my phones smaller screen rather than the larger car monitor. Again, CarPlay would give me more options. Beyond the obvious STARLINK flaw, I really like the vehicle and look forward to putting the all wheel drive to the test as the first flakes of snow begin to fall in a few weeks.

Best car for safety!! Our son and grandson were in a major car accident, T-boned, in their Subaru and suffered only minor injuries. The first responders credited it to being in a Subaru!

  • A perfect Fit - 2017 Subaru Outback

This vehicle is almost pefect. This is my 9th Subaru, so I am no stranger to the brand. This vehicle is everything I need in a vehicle. It has cargo capacity for my 3 large dogs, is getting 29MPG in mixed driving, and is very, very, very quiet. No irritating rattles and the ride is delightful. I love the fact that it has AWD and that it has high ground clearance. It fits me to a T. It is also a nice looking vehicle, which doesnt hurt. The only things Id change are the acceleration (though Im happy to sacrifice a slower start for the mpg Im getting), and having air conditioning in the rear of the vehicle in addition to the front. Because Ill be hauling my dogs to the dog park a lot and the fact that I live in sunny (and extremely hot) Phoenix, AZ, Id love to have rear air conditioning. Other than that, I dont have a single thing Id change. I love my new Outback and will keep it for a long, long, long time. Id recommend it without hesitation.
